Thank you for those listings. They corroborated what we know of William A. Boggs marriage to Nancy Delilah Lunsford, and provided clues that might add to what we know of two of our 3rd Great Grandaunts, Mary Boggs and Susannah Boggs, if the links prove out. If so I may be able to assist you with your search. GEORGE ADKINS Historical Hand-atlas, Illustrated -- H.H. Hardesty [1882] George G. Adkins was born in Bedford County, Virginia, May 2, 1826, and married in this county, August 20, 1851, to Elizabeth Miller, who is a native of this county, born May 15, 18__. Their family comprise: John W., born January 1, 1853, resides in Ashland, Kentucky; Mary A., March 20, 1855, resides in this county; Jerry P., March 7, 1857, resides at home; George F., May 2, 1859, died August 20, 1864; Joseph M., September 10, 1861, died August 28, 1864; Lizzie, February 20, 1864, resides at home. The parents of Mr. Adkins were Pleasant and Mary (Freeman) Adkins, settlers of this county in 1830; he died in February, 1841, and she in August, 1851. The parents of Mrs. Adkins came to this county in 1779; her father, Jacob Miller, held the office of justice of the peace thirty years; her mother's name was Anna (McKnight) Miller. The grandfather of Mrs. Adkins, John Miller, was born in Germany in 1715, and came to America in 1726; he died in Lawrence County, at the age of 95, in ! 1820. Her grandmother, Eleanor Miller, was born in Ireland in 1736, coming to America when very young; she died in this county in 1823, at the age of 87 years. George G. Adkins, the subject of this sketch, came to his death in a very sudden manner on November 11, 1873; he had taken his gun to kill some owls which were killing his chickens; he supposed the gun was not loaded and pulled back the hammer with his foot and blew down the barrel, when his foot slipped throwing the trigger down and discharging the gun; his death was instantaneous; it was a very severe blow to his wife and family. During his life he was a farmer and gardener, and the farm is still managed by his widow and sons. Two of Mr. Adkins's brothers were in the late war - William in the 188th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and Alfred in the 5th Virginia Infantry; they were both honorably discharged. Mrs. Adkins' address is South Point, Lawrence county, Ohio. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Carrie, Please try http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=P for records...........it lists William and Martha Day as parents of child William who died 1915 in Ironton, for example......... -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: OHLAWREN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 7 Nov 2008 1:50 pm Subject: Re: [OHLAWREN] William Lunsford This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: carriebias Surnames: Lunsford, Day, UNKNOWN Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.lawrence/3807.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Exactly where did you find that Martha Day was the mother of William Lundsford born on 22 Nov 1833? Was it in someone's online family tree? The reason I am asking is the following source info. When William Lunsford married Martha Morris in Wayne Co, VA (WV) on 2 Nov 1855 he gave the names of his parents as Wm and L Lunsford. When William's brother, Andrew Lunsford married Ellenor Haws in Wayne Co, WV on 24 Jan 1859 he ALSO gave his parents names as Wm & L Lunsford. Neither son listed their mother as M or Martha......As they themselves gave this info, I have to give it weight. SO that is why I am still trying to verify the mother of William & Andrew Lunsford. The ONLY document I am aware of that lists Martha Day as the mother of William Lunsford is his own death certificate, and that information was filled in by his daughter, Alice Lunsford Cleary. As she was 2 generations removed from the mother of her dad, William, I question the accuracy of the info against the L that was stated by both sons, William & Andrew in their marriage licenses. Is it possible that L died and William Sr remarried to a Martha Day???? That would be one explanation. Or did Martha Day have a given or middle name that began with a L? Back to the actual name of Lucinda, on the marriage record of Andrew Lunsford he had given the names as Wm & L Lunsford and SOMEONE had written into the margin of that record the name Lucinda....is it valid, I have no idea. But the L as mother of William and Andrew, as given personally by them, is still the most credible record thus far as to the name of their mother. It is all so confusing.....I am now ging to go through ALL census records for all states for 1850 and see if I can find a William and Andrew (brothers) that fit the correct timeline of their births. Maybe they were not living in OH in 1850?? Let me know if you found the info for Martha Day being the mother in a family tree or in a record somewhere.....records are what I am looking for. I have NOT ever been able to locate the marriage record for William Sr and Martha Day anywhere. Also the 1816 birth for WIlliam Sr is supposition there are no records, as yet, that support that info. If I am able to find an 1850 census with the brothers, William and Andrew, with their father William Sr the age of William Sr will at least give us a guide to when he may have been born. THANK YOU so much for all the time you took in researching with your response, are you descended from this Lunsford family?
