    3. Thanks Jean, I'm betting that he was divorced and the family didn't want to admit it. I can't imagine why in an era in which divorce wasn't as common as it is today someone would make that part up. :-) Now my job is to find out where, when and why the divorce took place. I don't mind a skeleton in my closet. My gggg grandpappy from Lawrence County spent time in the state pen for passing a counterfeit note. I think that's kinda cool. Not that I support that kind of thing, but... :-) Linda. > Perhaps John was married and then > divorces before 1900. 3. Hi Guys, I think I may have cracked the case on Elizabeth Hixon today. I've just updated George's website to allow for the new information. Well, I know I found her death, and I possibly found her in the 1930 census as well. She died in California! Who'd have thunk! This breaks open a whole new direction that I've never seen before in Hixon research. She's child #1 for anyone interested. http://lindatrent.homestead.com/GeoFHixon.html The problem with the 1930 census though is that Eliza Jane's birth year would be off by 7, that's not the end of the world, but it is a fact none-the-less. But note that her husband and she are recorded as the same age and that he first married at the age of 34 and she at the age of 17. That allows for her to have been previously married to an unknown Slagle as some Hixon researcher has claimed. Wow! And to think only a few years back this wall was so solid I couldn't even peek over it. That just shows that people should never give up. Thanks again, Linda.

    3. Hi Linda, I'm not related to the Hixons, but I thought that maybe I'd have a partial solution to your marital dilemma. Perhaps John was married and then divorces before 1900. Then, maybe Mary died sometime, and so technically he's widowed, but was divorced too. So many times, someone else was giving out the information, and they may or may not have known the true story. A child of John might have wanted him listed as widowed, or just said that his wife was dead and not wanted to elaborate. I would guess that Mary died before he did. I'm sure that this didn't help a whole lot, but maybe a little. :) - Jean Griesan P.S. 3. Hi Guys, First, for those on the Lawrence list who don't know, I have a new email linda_trent@att.net okay, now down to business. :-) I have a mysterious situation with one John Morgan Hixon. His story is on my webpage http://lindatrent.homestead.com/GeoFHixon.html John is George F. Hixon's 3rd child. If you have access to ancestry.com you can call up all the links, if not here's the story in a nutshell. October 19, 1887 John M. Hixon marries Mary E. Handley (they married in Gallia County) 1900 census John M. Hixon is living with his brother William and John is listed as single (they're living in Scioto County) 1910 census John is reportedly divorced and living in a Columbus boarding house and by occupation he's a plumber. The census was enumerated in April. 1910 (July 5th) John died in Clark County (many Hixons had moved to Clark County, so I figure he went to live with them through his illness) His death certificate states that he was a widower. Through all this John's father remained in Symms Twp., Lawrence County, Ohio. Okay, he's married, he's single, he's divorced, he's a widower -- I think we've touched on almost all possibilities. One's probably right, but which one? Where's Mary through all this? Is she dead? If they're divorced, I wonder what happened? Did they divorce in Gallia, Lawrence, Scioto, Clark county? Somewhere else? Would there be a write up in the newspaper? Were there any children involved? Who got the children? Now I have a new mission in life, to figure out what happened to Uncle John and Aunt Mary. :-) If anyone's on the Scioto list, please feel free to forward this. Thanks, Linda.

I believe he was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, and by 1910 he is in Kentucky. I have found a Samuel with William MOORE in 1870. I think William was married to Derinda NOBLE (daughter of Moses NOBLE). I think William's parents were John O. MOORE (found the initial in the 1840 Census) and Ann. I am confused because John MOORE states he was born in New Jersey, but a lot of information that I've seen intimates that all of the MOORES were from the South. Any help would be appreciated. 3. Hi. Me again. I forgot his children. Jesse, Thomas and Abe, had these children with Malinda Traver. But when divorced Richard kept two youngest sons. John and Charles. In 1850 census Richard had a 15 year old and he said she was his grand child. But None of Richards children were old enough to be papa. But their was also a middle age woman named Margaret and any thing can happen. Viola.

Emaline remarried John Rutherford Barney (b. 1816-1893) and on the 1850 Greenup, Kentucky Census I found the household of John N. Barney (age 34, head) Emeline Barney (age 38, wife) Alfred Storms (age 15, listed as son, but I am trying to find out if Fielding Storms was the father of Alfred, who is my gggggrandfather) Ary Ann Storms (age 13, listed as daughter, but I also believe she is the daughter of Fielding) and Mary Jane Barney (daughter, age 6). March 29, 1831 d. 1900) daughter of Pleasant McKnight and Susan Boggs. Alfred and Lucinda had four children, Henry G. Stormes (b. 1860 d. 1917) Susan Emaline Stormes (b. 1863 d. 1942) Mary A. Lots of family history and personal stories of those in the lower Ohio region. In this book, a man by the name of John T. Irwin visited his old home in Lawrence Co. from Illinois. He published the details of his recent visit to Ironton in the Ironton Register newspaper, dated Nov. 8, 1894. He states, "...After a happy day (in Cincinnati) I went on to Ironton where I landed just twenty-four years to a day from the time I moved away to the West. I put up at the Center House, and was greeted cordially the next morning by my old friend Charley Clutts, who is landlord. When he was a boy, he boarded at my house in Symmes and fed cattle, so we were old chums, and he made me feel at home." I suspect this landlord Charley is the Charles Clutts (b. 16 Dec. 1831) mentioned in the above Rootsweb entry, father of George Washington Clutts. ----------------------------------------------------- Another reference found to Charles Clutts and his boarding house is found in Ironton's Early History, those recounting stories of the city's founder, John Campbell: "Mr. John Clutts, a patient at the General Hospital the past six months, remembers John Campbell. He remembers him as a dinner guest at the Clutts House, when operated by his father, Mr. Charles Clutts. In 1891 Mr. Clutts left Ironton and took a job in Chicago.
