I am attempting to locate information for Bird Smith who first married Betsey Boothe 29-Oct-1829 and had 6 sons with her. He then married Lucy Ann Ellison 23-June-1857. The had 2 more sons. I found the following obituary for him: SMITH, BIRD I.R. AUG. 25, 1887 The venerable drayman who died last week, came to this county in 1809, when but 2 years old, settling on Big Branch, back of Rockwood. He moved to Ironton in 1852, and began draying soon after. One of his sons informs us that he found a dray bill dated 1854, among his father's papers. The information I have for the Booth family is: Daniel BOOTHE was born on 5 Apr 1785 in Dutchess County (now Putnam Co.), NY, married Mary McALEXANDER on 24 Apr 1806 in Patrick Co., VA and died on 16 Dec 1853 in Lawrence County. Mary was born in 1785 and died in 1854. The family moved to Lawrence County in the 1814-1818 timeframe. Children: Lucretia m. William SPEARS, Nancy m. Bennet T. EARLES, William, Mary, Elizabeth m. Bird SMITH, Zillah m. Nathan CHAFIN, Elisha m. Elizabeth LAMBERT, Daniel, Andrew J. m. Electra Jane WILLIS, and Henrietta m. William WILLIS. If anyone has any information about Bird Smith, I would greatly appreciate any help you could offer. I have census records and am primarily interested in who is parents were.

I think I can answer your questionthat Isaac and Nimrod are indeed brothers. Issac father was Benjamin moore whowas born abot 1750 in Maryland and he married a Margere (b. 1753) in the Dorchester Parish, Dorchester, Maryland. They had the following children, though a very incomplete list- Priscilla 25 Jan 1774 Dorchester Parish, Dorchester, Maryland, Nimrod 8 Jan 1775 Dorhcester the same, and Isaac Lewis 1779 Dorchester Parish the same. I assume it is a given that you know that Isaac was born in Maryland and not Virginia. I know nothing more about Benjamin and Margere but am working to find out. Obviously one will look in Maryland. On the question as to why they moved from Virignia to Ohio I was told by a geneologist that it had to do with abolotionist sympathies and that Isaac ruan a s! tation on an underground railway during the 1850's. All this is very romantic and it would take me some time to find the name and address of the historian who related it to me. Im not much interested on those details but I thought it on. I have reconstructed the families of Issac Moore, his son Amos, and his son Stanford which is my line. I have a few pics and would love any information on Nimrods chlidren or any photos you may have All best but in haste, Neil Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Sadly, none of them connect. My ancestor Serilda (often spelled Surilda) was born in 1833 so the 12 year old girl put into the home in 1876 or so could not be her. It IS likely that since it is in Lawrence County that one of MY Serildas many brothers named their daughter after his sister (MY Serilda). But without fathers name it is hard to tell. I will continue looking for a William Martin of the large family arond Rock Camp though as well as the Nance woman he married. What a neat book that is though. Thank you so much. I have a great book by Martha Kounse detailing the admissions to the Lawrence Co. Children's Home from 1874-1926. There is a girl here named Surilda MARTIN. Different first name spelling than your ancestor though. Admitted 11 Jan. 1876 no parents' names listed. "About 12 yrs. old, from Infirmary. Went to Mrs. S. Crawford's 17 Apr 1876. Returned to Home 22 Nov. 1876. Taken by Andrew GUSEGE, Quaker Bottom 23 May 1877." Here is a detailed plot map showing the location of Quaker Bottom. It is in lower Lawrence Co., OH. Click on the link, look in the upper left corner to see the area. It was also known as Proctorville. http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/detail/RUMSEY~8~1~3583~380104:City-of-Ironton,-Lawrence-Co--O---w If you cannot click on the above link, or if it doesn't show you the detailed map, let me know, I'll send the link directly to your e-mail. ------------ There is a NANCE woman here as well. MAY, Jesse (female) admitted 8 Sept. 1919 father - MAY, Dan mother - NANCE,Della Child Jesse was born 8 May 1905. If you want further details of her experience at the Home, let me know, I'll send it over. Here is the list of McKnights: Gertrude J.T. John Albert John Q. Joseph Liddie W.F. William If you need any info. on these above, let me know. ----------------- An entry for JOHNSON, Mary Serilda is also here. With Serilda being such a pretty and unique name, and your Serilda marrying a JOHNSON, maybe this child Mary is a connection to you? Middle name Serilda after your ancestor? Admitted 11 Nov. 1887 father - JOHNSON, Hiram mother - GIBSON, Rhoda "Mary Serilda Johnson was born 1881 Clinton Furnace, Scioto Co., OH." Another girl with the same parents and admission date is listed under her named Sarah Alice JOHNSON. A boy with the same parents and admission date is also listed. He is named after their father Hiram. "JOHNSON, Hiram Ernest. Born 1877. Lawrence Co., OH. Father born abt. 1843 in Ky. Was a soldier, now living and worthless. Mother born about 1846 at Clinton Furnace, Scioto Co., OH. living at Ironton, OH. Parents married ain Scioto Co., OH. 1875. Mrs. Jesse CRON, 6th Ward, Ironton is aunt (mother's side) of children. Brought to Home by Trustees of Upper Twp. Children returned to parents 26 Nov. 1887. Moved to Bloom Furnace, Scioto Co., OH." Another son with the same date of admission and parents is also listed.
