Would there be any Lawrence County documents (wills, land grants, whatever) that have a written record of a more specific place of origin in Virginia than just Virginia? He probably entered the county around 1810ish. All best, Neil Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Linda, In range 17, Partial Twp 1 and twp 2 are Fayette Twp, Twp 3 is Lawrence, Twp 4 is Aid Twp, Twp 5 is Symmes Twp. The two deeds would be for adjoining parcels of approx. 40 acres. A 1 mile square section is 640 acres, but the farther south of the base line you get, there is more variation on the east west width of a range. At the base line each range is 6 miles wide. Each township, as surveyed, is 6 miles by 6 miles, and is divided into 36 one mile square sections. When reading land descriptions start with the inner part, which in these two descriptions is the NW or NE quarter of the section. Then go to the first part of the description. BURTON. I made a trip to the Cabell County Library today on another search and took a few mins. to see what I could locate. Cabell County Library does have an obituary index and I did locate where BASIL had one listed and COSPER C. BURTON did not. I have found it best to go ahead and search just in case they may have overlooked it and I did locate one for each of them: BASIL E. BURTON Herald-Dispatch Thursday 29 Jan 1953: BASIL ELDER BURTON, 41, of Ironton, a former employe of the Zenith Optical Co. of Huntington, died yesterday at the home of his mother, Mrs. Marie E. Burton, 116 North Fifth Street, Ironton. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Burton, the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Cosper Burton, attended Ironton schools and Virginia Military Institute. Also surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ruth Burton, one daughter, Ann H. Burton, and two sons, Cosper William and Myron Burton, all at home. The body is at the Frank Feuchter Funeral Home in Ironton. (End) Huntington Herald-Dispatch 1 September 1950 - RITES SATURDAY FOR DR. BURTON -Funeral services for Dr. Cosper C. Burton, 68, of Ironton, who died Wednesday in a Huntington hospital will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at his home, 116 North Fifth Street by the Rev. Mr. Neel prior to burial in Woodland Cemetery. Born January 8, 1882, near Dobbston in Windsor Township, he was a son of the late Thomas H. and Margaret Burton. He taught school there at the age of 15 and later was a teacher at South Point. He graduated in 1910 from the college of medicine of the University of Cincinnati and in 1911 was married to Miss Marie Elder, who survives. In 1919, Dr. Burton moved to Ironton with his wife and son, and established a medical practice. During World War I he served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps. He served for several years as a member of the Ironton City Health Board and was vice-president and director of the Etna Building and Loan Co. He had been suffering from heart disease for several months but remained active until becoming seriously ill and entering the hospital Tuesday. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Aid, O., a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Elks Lodge and active in many other organizations. In addition to the widow, survivors include the son, Basil Burton; three sisters, Mrs. Ben Russell, Mrs. C. O. Wood and Mrs. Hattie Russell Jenkins of Aid, and a brother, John Burton of Henry, Ill.
