My only knowledge of Jane Stanley was a family tree from 10 years ago. My grandmother thought a Freeman was Kyle Evicks' mother and not Jane Stanley. A distant cousin sent me the Freeman marriage information which clarified things. Henry Evick (s) served in the Union during the Civil War. My g-g-grandfather Sanders served in the Confederacy. It makes for interesting history. Do you know if Jane died in childbirth with Charles and if Charles middle name was Emory? She was married to Moses Alfred Freeman (brother of my g-g-g grandfather). Moses died in Jan. 1864 in a Washington D.C. hospital from wounds he had received a few months earlier while serving in the Civil War. On Nov. 8, 1866 Jane married Henry Evicks. On March 19, 1872, Henry married Mary Clutters. She was born in 1848 and died Sept. 18, 1924 at the home of her daughter in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her body was returned to Lawrence County and buried in Woodland Cemtery. I don't have any information on the Evicks but am interested in sharing info on the Freeman family. My great-great grandfather was Valentine (Volentine) Newman, my grandfather was Charles Valentine Newman and my grandfather was Walter Gray Newman. They all lived in Ironton at some point. Valentine Newman is buried at the Woodlawn cemetery. They were all free masons too if that helps. I have several Newman pictures from the late 1800's and early 1900's. The ones that are labeled aren't labeled well and everything else isn't labeled at all. I'd like to see if someone could help me match the pictures to the people. If we share the same family...and you know who's who...let me know! Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. At least one major branch of it was. I don't know if they might have operated other places, but had a major business there. They floated the logs downriver from a place called Splashdam, VA, through present day Grundy, VA, into the Breaks, and down the mountain into ELkhorn City. From there, on through Pikeville, and to Ashland, KY, where the logs were sold. http://www.foresthistory.org/research/Galleries/Logging_LogDrives_SplashDams_Gallery/pages/FHS5030th.htm http://haysivirginia.gov/history/index.html http://books.google.com/books?id=6ZkoGoiyBscC&pg=PA216&lpg=PA216&dq=Splashdam yellow poplar lumber company&source=bl&ots=dJmFLP-1UQ&sig=MIsV07_UpcfW9cnrtyL2d0aEutc&hl=en&ei=mVmcS4-WB8G78gbojJ34DQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=10&ved=0CCAQ6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=Splashdam yellow poplar lumber company&f=false Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I believe he was born in Kentucky, but I can not find any other information on him other than his marriage to Emaline Nichols. Emaline remarried John Rutherford Barney (b. 1816-1893) and on the 1850 Greenup, Kentucky Census I found the household of John N. Barney (age 34, head) Emeline Barney (age 38, wife) Alfred Storms (age 15, listed as son, but I am trying to find out if Fielding Storms was the father of Alfred, who is my gggggrandfather) Ary Ann Storms (age 13, listed as daughter, but I also believe she is the daughter of Fielding) and Mary Jane Barney (daughter, age 6). I believe that Fielding Storms must have died between 1837 and 1840. Alfred Storms, who I believe to be his son, went on to marry Lucinda McKnight (b. March 29, 1831 d. 1900) daughter of Pleasant McKnight and Susan Boggs. Alfred and Lucinda had four children, Henry G. Stormes (b. 1860 d. 1917) Susan Emaline Stormes (b. 1863 d. 1942) Mary A. Stormes (b. 1868 d.?) and Alleen Stormes (b. 1871 d.?) If anyone has any information on these Storms' I would greatley appreciate your help.
