He married Margaret Snoddy on November 4, 1868 in Greenup Co., KY. Margaret gave birth to twin daughters Sarah and Rachel in November 1869. On the 1870 census, Thomas does not appear with them, just Margaret and the two girls living alone. On the 1880 census Margaret and the girls are living with her parents. It has been passed down through family members that Thomas had a connection to England. I have found a Thomas Maynes born in Pennsylvania. His parents are John and Mary Ann Maynes both born in England. As best I can find, John and Mary Ann had three children: John Jr, Martha and Thomas. On the 1860 Census this family is shown in Upper district(Ironton), Lawrence County, OH. This corresponds with the age and location of my Thomas. However, I cannot find any data on this family at the Lawrence County library. Any help would be appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Ok, thanks. I had a couple things but I guess they were from OhGenWeb and not Rootsweb. This is a bit of what I had from an article: "Symmes Township was organized in 1820. George Pine, John C. Stewart. William G. Robinson and Silas Spurlock were the first settlers. Silas Spurlock made the first cabin in 1820. The first settlement was made at the mouth of Johns Creek, the next at Yates Fork on Buffalo. Other early settlers were: Constantine Handley, Thomas and John Wray, Caleb McDaniel, Benjamin and Solomon Nelson, George Irwin, William Burke and R. Cooper. The early settlers cleared most of the timber and killed or drove off most of the wild animals." Solomon Nelson mentioned above is the farthest back I've been able to get in my Nelson family. I believe Benjamin was his brother. Tom, FYI: Rootsweb should have a Z'sWorld with Laxton, McComas, Pendry. On the site I had indexes to valid sources. I have some Ohio info from the area there. On the index, I sorted by first name. I have some McComas (and variations of the names listed). I have Jones, Webb, & McComas in that area. ________________________________ From: Tom Caulley <tcaulleysgenmail@yahoo.com> To: ohlawren@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, April 20, 2010 5:34:41 AM Subject: [OHLAWREN] LAWRENCE Digest, Vol 5, Issue 45 To all whose known ancestors did not show up on the index I just finished: That is JUST an index of info THAT ALREADY EXISTS in the RootsWeb Data Base. Thanks Don, I'll check my info and see what I have. This is from my mother's side, and she was adopted out at birth, so she wasn't raised with the Nelson's. My mom is gone now, so I am on my own trying to find that type of info. I'll get back to you. Or is that what you are trying to find out? 1. I would check the 1820 census for any Benjamin Nelson in Ohio, but especially in the Harrison Co. area. This might get you an approx. birth year, since he had to be at least 18 or so in 1812. He would have to have been born by about 1794, but could have been older. 2. If you find him in 1820, try the same area in 1830. 1830 gives you ten year brackets for adults. 3. Try marriage records in that same area. Do you already know who he married? My Nelson family was one of the first settlers of Symmes Township in Lawrence County. I didn't see the Nelson name in this index. Does that just mean they aren't listed anywhere? Hi Anne Marie For a name to be on that index, I would have had to have found it when I did the RootsWeb Search. Unless I missed it, (which is always a possibility), they were not mentioned so they weren't indexed. If you want me to index it elsewhere on my site, I will need another site to link to that has info on the Carlan clan. Let me know if this is th case, and I will include them Tom Caulley Message: 3 Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2010 09:18:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Anne Marie Menard <am_sewingspot@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [OHLAWREN] RootsWeb search results indexed To: ohlawren@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <592999.96573.qm@web59602.mail.ac4.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Hello Tom, I have very much enjoyed your work of indexing Lawrence County surnames. I am researching the Boyce surname and was so tickled that when I clicked on it it took me to the McEnerny/Carlan Family Connection website. May I ask that you add the surname of Carlan to your index? Lawrence County is the hub of this family also and I am in hopes that if someone sees that surname there may be a chance of a connection there. The Carlan family line is quite large as is the Boyce lineage. Thank you for your consideration. Annemarie Carlan-Menard

I was just at Kingery Cemetery last weekend. The sign is down. The "road" is just a dirt lane and is pretty rough. Right outside the fence for the cemetery is a lot of trash. People have either been dumping their garbage there or partying there. Or both. I used FindAGrave.com and the directions to the cemetery got me there. But Henry's wonderful photos misled me, because it didn't look anything like his pictures. Right now, last year's grass is high and very brown. I understand from others that they will clean up the cemetery in time for Memorial Day. My great great great grandfather, James Tagg is there. Kathy Petras
