    3. Congrats, Don, on your new position as VP of Development for OGS. Like you, I find the lack of activity on the LawCo List disappointing. There is so much history in this area plus there is such a cross-over with so many families having connections with several surrounding WV and KY counties as well as other OH counties, so it would seem this would generate a lot of postings. The gatewayed messages seem to be more frequent on a number of Lists, but I often find that clicking that link and going back and forth is just not to my liking, so it isn't unusual for me to just delete those messages. Not saying that's particularly useful to others or to me, but it does happen. I'd much prefer to see the postings direct to the List. Wish I had a solution to increasing the List activity. I sometimes wonder how many locals are active in the various Gen. societies but not online. 1. [OHLAWREN] List admin update with OGS info
    2. Welcome to the list for any new subscribers. I have been the list admin. for several years now, and all of you nice folks have made it an easy job. The biggest problem I have is that so few of you post info or queries. Most of the posts coming thru are gate-wayed from the Lawrence County message board. I attended the Ohio Genealogical Society 2010 Conference at the Seagate Center in Toledo last week. I had been an OGS Trustee for 5 years, and at the annual business luncheon, I became the Vice President of Development. I'll know more about what exactly this position will entail as I get to meet with the committee chairs who report to me. I welcome comments and suggestions from any of you, either OGS members or not. The Lawrence County Genealogical Society is the 74th Chapter of OGS. OGS is in the final stages of building a new 18,000 sq. ft. library, on Ohio Rt. 97 (exit 165), about a mile east of I-71, in Richland County. We'll be moving about 40,000 books, microfilms, manuscripts, etc. to that new building in June, with an official Grand Opening in July. Any of you who are interested can go to the OGS web site at www.ogs.org There is info about the organization and its operations, access to members only databases, applications for the four lineage groups, and a link to a photo history of the construction, from the groundbreaking in late May 2009 up thru last week. Donald R Clark, ohlawren list admin. OGS VP for Development Corresponding Sec. and Newsletter Editor for the Lawrence Co. Gene. Soc. PO Box 1035 Proctorville, OH 45669-1035 Lawcoloreman@aol.com Ph. 740-886-7230 or 886-6671(thru mid Aug.) Cell 304-521-3917 (doesn't work at home)

    3. Congratulations on your position from me, too. I'm among those who would like to have a more active list but delete the gatewayed messages. It's just way too awkward. Whoever had the bright idea to tie them into the list doesn't get any brownie points from me. But I thought I would put this in it's own topic in case others might miss it. I have a nice typed research for the Marting family that started in Scioto County but many many branches of it ended up in Lawernce County (in and around Ironton, OH). I am willing to do look ups in this book if anyone is in need. Any Marting relation possibly descended from John Henry Marting b ? d 1848 Most of his children came and settled in and around Ironton around 1846. Found them in 1860 census they are living in Lawrence Township with a daughter, Sarah E.; however, after that I cannot locate them. Katherine was born about 1834 (In 1860 census she is listed as Marie K) and Abraham "Abe" was born in about 1837.
