Hi List, I am researching the MASSIE/ROACH line. My gg grandfather was Jeptha MASSIE b. 1841Lawrence Co. OH s/o Jonathan MASSIE and Margaret ROACH. He married Effa McCANN 1865 in Gallia Co.OH. He served in the Civil War and died about 1895. Children of Jeptha & Effa: Mary b. 1867 Stephen b. 3-28-1868 (my line) died 2-20-1944 m. Alzonia CART both died in Gallia Co. buried Old Pine Cemetery. Death Certif. states he was born in Lawrence Co. OH Elsie b. 1871 Hulda b. 1873 Dora b. 1876 Sheldie b. 1879 They are in Lawrence Co. OH for 1880 census. Any additions or information is surely welcome. Could use some information on the ROACH line. Who were Margaret's parents and where were they from? Would like death date of Jeptha and father of Effa b. October, 1850. Her mother was Wilmeth McCAN/McKEAN living in Gallia Co. 1850 census no listing for Effa. Father unkn. Cannot find Effa in the 1860 census. Carolyn __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

I have a few in Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston and Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Washington Township. Are there map's i can use or should i just get directions from someone? And once i find the cemeteries how do i locate the graves? I've never been to any of these places before. And i've never searched for tombstones. I'm lost when it comes to this stuff. Any help would be great!! Thanks, Beth Maxwell [email protected]
Listers, The list has been very quiet lately, so I am hoping a lot of you will follow my lead and post queries about your early Lawrence Co. ancestors. Please don't call this a roll call. Please write a good subject line. Samuel Clark was born in NJ in 1768, married in 1791, and by the1810 at the latest, was in Upper Twp. It was still part of Scioto Co then. His wife was Mary Darby, but she died before the family reached Ohio. The children were Samuel Jr. b. 1792, Cornelius b. 1793, Joel b. 1795, Hannah b. 1798, James b. 1800, Amos b. 1802, Rebecca b. 1803, and Sarah b. 1805. Samuel Jr. married Phoebe Sayre from Meigs Co, and moved westward. Joel married Margaret before 1820. Her family name is not known at this time. She died about 1832. They had several children, who I have not been able to identify so far. Hannah married William Carpenter. Their family and Samuel Clark moved to Missouri in the mid 1840's. Hannah, William and Samuel are buried in the Gash Cemetery in N Kansas City, MO, with one large marker for the three. James married Martha Lambert. They moved away and I don't know anything about their family. Amos married Sally Stumbough. They had four or five children before he died in 1848. I have some additional info, including his estate settlement. Rebecca is reported to have married a David Robertson. They are reported to have been in St. Louis in mid to late 1800's. Sarah married a William McCoy, and I have the names of 5 children born between 1828 and 1842. My direct line continues with Cornelius, who married Elizabeth Lambert, a daughter of Jonathan and Margaret McFarlin Lambert. They moved into Aid Twp. about 1825, and raised a large family. The youngest son was Levi. Levi's oldest son and my grandfather was Delbert. Would welcome correspondance with any descendant of this family, especially those line where little is now known. I have documented my line and am a member of First Families of Lawrence Co., with my Clark and Lambert ancestors proved. Will be happy to share with any other Clark researcher. John Fraley/Friley. I wonder, how do I find out who the Nancy was who was with John keeping house. Could this be his wife or just a live in person? Im not too familar with the info on the 1870 census, does it list wife and daughter? We know that John married a Nancy in Lawrence County Ohio in 1879, I have a copy of the license. So what I have found is two John Frileys in Lawrence County Ohio around this time period. Any thoughts on this? And in 1870 one of the John's was with a Nancy and the other could be the son of Samuel. Altho the death certificate says father was a Daniel. But Samuel's father was a Daniel..The plot thickens. Again thanks for your help. Mrs. Fraley
