Hi all! Here's another of my lines. I descend from Fredrick and Ruth (Osborn) Griffith through their daughter, Ruth. Lewis Fredrick Griffith was born on April 3, 1790 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Abel and Elizabeth (Swartz) Griffith. Fredrick married Ruth Osborn in Bedford County about 1811. Ruth was born on March 24, 1792. It is unknown who Ruth's parents were. Fredrick and Ruth moved to Greenup County, Kentucky in 1819, and then on to Adams County, Ohio in 1820. The family moved to Lawrence County sometime between 1820 and 1830. They were first in Elizabeth Township, then in Mason Township, and finally in Symmes Township by 1850. They had the following children: 1. Elizabeth Griffith, born about September 1812 in Pennsylvania. She married first David Lanthorn, and secondly, Walter Neal Jr. She died on February 22, 1898. 2. Benjamin Griffith, born in 1813 in Pennsylvania. He married first Prudence Lanthorn, and secondly, Elizabeth Madill. He died January 11, 1874 in Kentucky. 3. Mary Ann Griffith, born on March 13, 1816 in Pennsylvania. She married Samuel Burke. She died on September 1, 1872. 4. Jane Ann Griffith, born in 1817 in Pennsylvania. It is unknown what happened to Jane. 5. Lewis Amos Griffith, born on August 1, 1819 in Center County, Pennsylvania. He married Zeralda Stewart. He died on January 31, 1878. 6. Cynthia A. Griffith, born on April 23, 1821 in Adams County, Ohio. She married George Washington Stewart. She died on August 1, 1875. 7. John Oscar Griffith, born on February 8, 1823 in Adams County, Ohio. He married Amy McCartney. He died in August 1899. 8. Thomas James Griffith, born on January 15, 1826 in Ohio. He married Elsie (Alyse) Jane Townsend. He died on October 31, 1907. 9. David Griffith, born on May 25, 1829 in Lawrence County, Ohio. He married Martha Jane Stewart. He died on March 11, 1882 in Ceredo, West Virginia. 10. Nancy Griffith, born in 1832 in Lawrence County, Ohio. It is unknown what happened to Nancy. 11. Ruth Griffith, born on April 15, 1835 in Lawrence County, Ohio. She married John H. C. Stewart. She died on June 19, 1919. 12. Naomi Griffith, born in 1838 in Lawrence County, Ohio. It is believed that she married Thomas M. Smith. It is thought that she died between 1882 and 1900 in Wisconsin. Fredrick died on December 31, 1865. Ruth died on May 8, 1868. They were buried in Griffith Cemetery in Aid Township. I am currently researching this family. I have a lot of information, but I am certainly hoping to fill in some of the details, especially what happened to the daughters, Jane, Nancy, and Naomi. I'd love to chat with other descendants or others involved with the families that the Griffiths married into. Thanks! - Jean Griesan Colorado [email protected]

Hi! I descend from Thomas and Chloe Gillett Gardner through their daughter Kate. Thomas Gardner was born on June 19, 1794 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest child of Benoni and Silence (Grant) Gardner, sometimes spelled Gardiner. The Gardner family moved to near Marietta, Washington County, Ohio about 1795. Benoni left the family about 1799. The courts administered the estate of Benoni Gardner in 1802, believing him to be dead, due to the work of the Indians. Silence remarried to Ebenezer Nye in the fall of 1802. Thomas moved to Lawrence County, Ohio in about 1814. He married Chloe Gillett, the daughter of Joel and Cloa (Griswold) Gillet in 1818. Chloe was born on December 14, 1799 in Hartford, Connecticut. Thomas and Chloe settled in the area known as Quaker Bottom, in Rome Township. Thomas and Chloe helped to start Beulah Baptist Church, donating the land and the time to build it. They had the following children: 1. Amos Gardner, born on June 9, 1819. 2. Claretta Gardner, born on February 1, 1823. She married Augustus Magee. She died November 21, 1866. 3. Julia Gardner, born on July 8, 1825. She married Henry Parks Goodall. Julia died on June 15, 1857. 4. Roswell Gardner, born on January 23, 1828. He married Nancy Ophelia Delay. He died on February 15, 1912. 5. Lydia Catharine "Kate" Gardner, born on September 1, 1830. She married Nelson Clinton Cox. She died on October 12, 1918. 6. Judson Gardner, born on January 27, 1834. He married Frances E. Hall. He died after 1900, possibly in Missouri. 7. Ann Hasseltine Gardner, born on December 16, 1835. She married Stephen Staley. She died on October 22, 1895 in Arkansas. 8. Thomas Wade Gardner, born on September 2, 1839. He died young. 9. Maria Gardner, born on March 31, 1841. She married Joseph Cox (brother to Nelson Cox above). She died on November 25, 1872. 10. Alice Chloe Gardner, born on June 19, 1844. She married Merritt E. Judd. She died on June 17, 1877. 11. Beulah Eustacia "Stacy" Gardner, born on February 27, 1845. She married George Henry McCormick. She died on September 15, 1923. Thomas lived in Lawrence County for the rest of his life. Chloe died on April 6, 1870. Thomas remarried to a young widow, Barbara (Henry) Davidson. They moved to a small farm in Union Township. Thomas died on December 5, 1879. Thomas and Chloe were buried at Beulah Baptist Cemetery. I have done a lot of research on this line, but as usual, there are some holes in it. I would love to discuss any of this farther with other descendants or with anyone about the allied families as well. Thanks for reading this! - Jean Griesan [email protected]
Hello listers. Here's another of my family lines. Josiah Lambert was born in NJ about 1742. In July 1766, in Monmouth Co., NJ, he married Joannah Woodward of Hunterdon Co., NJ. She was born about 1745. Josiah died about 1820, and Joannah about 1825, both in Upper Twp, Lawrence Co. Josiah served in the navy during the American Revoluntionary War. He has a DAR marker in Woodland Cem. in Ironton. The grave was there from an earlier location. In the 1790, the family was in Harrison Co., VA (near current Clarksburg, WV). About 1798 the family sold the land they had in VA and headed down the Ohio River. One source says they went as far west as Maysville, KY. They are said to have found the best lands there already claimed, so worked their way back upriver to the area now between Hanging Rock and Ironton. They were in OH by 1802 or 03. Josiah and Joannah were the parents of: Joseph b. ca 1768, m Ruth Hull, 1791 Harrison Co, VA Mary b. ca 1771, m Charles Hull, 1791 Harrison Co, VA Johathan b. ca 1772, more later**** Susannah b. ca 1776, m John Davisson, 1796 Harrison Co, Va Richard b. ca 1778, m Nancy Carpenter, 1804 Scioto Co, OH Hannah b. ca 1780, m James Hull, 1798 Harrison Co, VA Anna b. ca 1780, m Noah Clark, 1798 Harrison Co, VA Priscilla b. ca 1784, m Charles Wilson, 1833 Lawrence Co, OH Abagail b. ca 1784, m John Kelley, 1804 Scioto Co, OH Most of the children and spouses came to OHIO My direct line is through Jonathan. He married Margaret McFarlin in Jan 1797 in Harrison Co, VA. Margaret is reported to be a daughter of John Bennett McFarlin/McFarland and Elizabeth Hughes of VA. I have not been able to prove this, but several things combined to support this. John Bennett MccFarland was a Revoluntionary War Vet., who served and was a prisioner at the siege at Charleston, SC. He collected a pension. Jonathan and Margaret had the following children: Thomas b. 1798 more later** Elizabeth b. 1799 more later** John b. 1801 d. 1855 Lawrence Co Elias b. 1802 d. 1855 Lawrence Co, m2 Elizabeth Powell, 1828 Greenup Co KY Leandra b. 1804 James b 1806 d. ca 1866, m Maria Cumpston,1827 Lawrence Co Cassandra b. 1810 Samuel b. 1814 I have traced my line to both Thomas and Elizabeth Lambert. Thomas Lambert married Mary Sampson, daughter of Thomas Sampson, in Dec 1814 in Greenup Co, KY. Both fathers signed for the underage marriage. Their third child was Margaret, b. 1822, who married Lewis Rose, son of William and Mary Adkins Rose, in 1838. Their daughter, Emily Jane Rose, married Levi Clark in Aug 1862. Elizabeth Lambert married Cornelius Clark ca 1818. They were the parents of ten, with the youngest son being the Levi Clark who married Emily Jane Rose, his first cousin once removed. Thomas Lambert lived in Aid Twp., across Rt 141 from the Symmes Valley Schools. Cornelius and Elizabeth Lambert Clark also lived in Aid Twp, on Symmes Creek, about halfway between Aid and Arabia. I have a lot of info on these families, but do not have the burial location for Cornelius and Elizabeth Clark. I welcome correspondance with any descendant of any branch of these families. Maybe we can help each other fill in some gaps. Donald R Clark, List Administrator OHLAWREN-L , OHLAWREN-D Email: [email protected]
