    1. Pruett/Shafer
    2. I'm interested in talking with anyone who knows the following family: Emaline (Emma) Shafer married James Pruett just prior to 1890 in Lawrence County. Both he and she were born in 1870 in Ohio. They are in census records of LC through and including 1930 (Union Township) and the following are their children. Laura, b. 9/1888 Martha b. 5/1894 Dora b. 4/1896 Emma b. 5/1899 James b. 1901 William H "Willie" b. 1903 Walter b. 1906 I'm particularly interested in Emma (Emaline) as I think she may be daughter of Andrew M. Shafer and his wife Emily. Anyone know these guys ? Gary

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CZB.2ACI/2428 Message Board Post: Historic Atlas Series: 1868 Atlas of the State of Ohio The 1868 Atlas of the State of Ohio CD is a snapshot of mid nineteenth century Ohio a recommended resource for genealogists, historians and anyone undertaking research of this period in Ohio's history. The Atlas data has been scanned at 400 dpi and is presented in high quality Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). Examples of some of the Atlas pages can be viewed by following the link to our web site below: http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/oh_map/oh_index.html Table of Contents includes: Counties, Cities, Agriculture, Canals, Climate Map, Climatology, Colleges, County Evolution, Land Grants of Ohio, Geological Map, Geology, History, Schools and Seminaries, Post Offices, Railways, Statistics and Surveys of Ohio. Multiple adjacent county maps are primarily useful for identifying 1868 transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, and early Ohio place names. The 25 city maps in the Atlas are much more detailed with many early government and industrial sites including: * schools, churches and cemeteries * streets, roads and railways * rivers, streams and canals * race tracks and fair grounds * post offices and government sites * industrial sites, furnaces and mills * hospitals and asylums and much, much more The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas; and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary. The map data has been created and configured using the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader (6.0) for MS Windows (98, 98SE, XP, NT and 2000). The maps may be viewed in earlier versions of the software as well; however, optimum use of the data can be expected using the Adobe Reader 6.0 that is included on this CD. I have actually been there a couple of times, but it has been quite a few years ago. Bruce There are microfilms of many county records, including wills, deeds, marriages, probate court births and deaths, full microfilm of most of the newspapers since 1850, census, etc. Some of these are from the earliest right up to the near present. There are two large filing cabinets of films. Most of what is on line is indexes. The Ohio Historical Society index to Ohio Death Certificates, from 1908-1942 There are about three years in the mid 1930's where a copy was not available There are copies of the birth and death indexes from the Health Dept., that include dates. Cemetery records, There are transcriptions of many records and family histories. Yes, there is a lot of stuff on the Lawrencecountyohio.com web site, but it just scratches the surface of what is available in the Hamner Room. One of the largest pluses for the Hamner Room, is the personal assistance by someone who knows what info may be found in a particular record group, and how to use that to move forward. I will admit that there are times when the room is covered by a sub, who just barely knows what genealogy is, let alone how to dig out obscure facts. All library's have budget problems these days. 3. Hey Henry - Appreciate your email. I've not gotten much response to my query. Yes - I would have also had ancestors in school during the 1903-1909 period. Any pics of Eaton's, Gardner's, Cox's, or Gillett's could possibly be some of my relatives. Thanks so much. 3. Don, I know that at the moment, Alexander Waddell is not being accepted by the DAR as a patriot. I'm sure if someone can produce more proof than what they have on file they will again recognized him. This happened in with Thomas Clark in Gallia County. It took several years but he was reproved but with a different military record. Many of the original applications did not have much proof and some was just information passed down from one generation to another. We have several members in Gallia County that have joined in the past on Alexander Waddell and now we are having to find other ancestors for new family members wanting to join. Marjorie L. Mr. Jack Dickinson will speak about the Rosanna Blake collection of Civil War items, that is housed near the Special Collections Dept of the Marshall University Morrow Library.
