As newsletter editor for the Lawrence County Genealogical Society, I am inviting anyone with a query about a Lawrence Co. family, to send it directly to me. I am starting to accumulate material for the August issue of the Lawco Lore, and will publish queries free of charge. It is a service to our members ot have as many queries as possible. The mailing address is needed because many members do not have (and many don't want) email. We currently mail about 250 copies, which includes about 50 to other societies and libraries where many will have acces to them. I will need your query by mid July. Please include enough detail to identify the individual or family you are hunting for. A specific name or two and a few dates are good, but just ta Family name and a time period you know them to have been in Lawrence Co can be enough. I may have to edit some if there are a lot of queries, but am very careful to not change meaning, just to condense, i.e.: b. and d. for birth and death.. Let me repeat, send it directly to me, not to the list. The annual reunion of descendants of Lewis Rose, willl be held on Labor Day Sunday, September 4, 2005, at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds near Proctorville. Dinner is potluck, and usually starts about 12:30. Lewis Rose was born in 1819, married to Margaret Lambert about 1838, and after her death, married Sarah Louisa Hoskinson in 1873. He was the father of at least 18 children, with many descendants still living Lawrence Co and area. Lewis was a son of William and Mary Adkins Rose, who were married in Gallia Co in 1811. Lewis Rose's next older sibling was Mary Rose (she had a twin brother William). Mary Rose was born in 1817 and married John Ellcessor, an 1820 German immigrant, in 1836. Rufus B Ellcessor was their only child who lived to marry and raise a family. His wife was Martha Jane Sampson, a daughter of John and Caroline Fowler Sampson. The Rose Reunion organizer has graciously extended an invitation for the descendants of John and Mary Rose Ellcessor to join them at this years reunion. As past president of the Ellcessor Reunion, I urge any family members who might see this message to pass the invitation along to all the family members they know. If interested in attending, please contact me. If enough of you are interested, I will try to organize some events for the Ellcessor's on Saturday Sept. 3. Many of you have never seen the area where the earliest generations of the family lived, or the cemetery where the first four generations of the family are buried. We could meet at the shelter at the Locust Grove Cemetery and have a guided tour from there. My mother was Darlene Ellcessor, eldest daughter of "Roy" and Chloe Morris Ellcessor. They still lived in Mason Twp, in the valley below the Rufus Ellcessor farm, when I was a child. Mom recently celebrated her 85th birthday. I am also a Lewis Rose descendant, on the Clark side, where his second daughter, Emily Jane, married Levi Clark of Aid Twp Donald Clark 1005 Township Rd 149 Proctorville, OH 45669-9082 Ph. 740-886-7230 Email: [email protected] or [email protected]

Dear listers, My main computer died Sunday evening. It had been several months since I backed up a lot of things, so much is in limbo at the moment. The computer goes to a wise man tomorrow, to see if it can be revived, or at least it's memories recovered. If you sent me a message or request in the last six months, especially those who sent queries, please send them to me again. I'm trying to rebuild at least the important files since the first of the year. There is a gravesite in Rome Cemetery, Law. Co., with the headstone inscribed "Juanita M. Morris 1913-1991". Does anyone know this person? I am researching a Juanita Morris who was married to Harry Morris, and they lived in Huntington, WV at least in the early 40's. At some time in the mid-50's they moved from Huntington, but I don't know where, and I've not been able to locate either one since that time. Am wondering if there's any possiblity that the person buried in Rome Cemetery is the one I'm seeking. Unfortunately I have no info on the parents or siblings (if any) and to my knowledge there were no children. Thanks for any help. Nancy Edwards (in Georgia) [email protected]
