Thanks Jean - I had checked there also. I've checked all resources I can think of without success, so decided to post to the List. Appreciate your help. Oops - on my earlier post requesting further info on Martha RACH and Susan MORRISON I meant to say I can find no marriage info nor 'death' (not data) info. Sorry about that. Nancy Edwards
Perhaps not everyone has yet read their emails or perhaps no one knows the answers to these questions, but thought I'd again ask a couple questions I posted a couple days ago. On the 1910 Census for LawCo Rome Twp, I find ancestors living on "River Road". Is this the same as Rt. 7? If not, where would the location be or have been for "River Road"? I've also come across some info that there are ancestors buried in Gilett(e) Cemetery. I found it listed in the new LawCo Hist. book but can't seem to find the exact location. Does anyone know specifically where this cemetery is? Appreciate any assistance. Regards, Nancy Edwards
Would someone with the ability to check official resources be so kind as to check a couple of marriages for me so I will have all available info recorded and also be able to verify unofficial info I now have? I would like to be able to verify the marriages of Richard MORRISON to (1) Mary BRINDLEY circa 1814-1815 and (2) Elizabeth PRITCHARD circa 1853. I'm unsure whether the MORRISON-BRINDLEY marriage occurred in Lawrence Co. or if they married in VA prior to moving to OH. I'm pretty sure the MORRISON-PRITCHARD marriage occurred in OH and have unofficial info that it was in Lawrence Co. Many thanks. Nancy Edwards - in GA -
I'm hoping someone can help me locate more info on these two individuals I found on the 1850 OH Lawco Union Twp Census living with Richard and Mary MORRISON. They are Martha RACH 38 yo b VA and Susan MORRISON 15 yo b OH. I cannot find these individuals anywhere else - not on other Censuses, no marriage or data info, nothing. It is possible, I suppose, that Susan MORRISON could be a daughter, but she's not listed on any other data I have for the children of Richard and Mary MORRISON. And the RACH surname has never surfaced before in any of my research. Really would appreciate any assistance. Thank you. Nancy Edwards
Hey Nancy, Just so that you know, I went to the Lawrence County website and looked at the cemetery listings. Gillett Cemetery is not listed with directions on the website (most cemeteries are listed there). I thought that it would eliminate one place to look. Nancy, Not sure I fully know the answer to your question. However, I know the house and location where my grandparents and my father lived in the 1910 Lawrence Co. Census. They lived 150 yards off what is currently Route 7, but owned the land to the road. According to the Census, they lived on "River Road." Henry S. I am looking for any information regarding the family of John Q. or C. HAGAMAN or HAGERMAN, b.1844, who married Hannah Jane "Jennie" Dillon(1842-1871). She was the daughter of Vincent Dillon Sr. and Hannah Jackson Dillon. John Q. is known to have taken off with Hannah's brothers, Isaac Dillon and Peter Hamilton Dillon for Missouri in 1859. Peter Hamilton and John Q. eventually returned to Lawrence Co., where John Q. married Hannah Jane Dillon in 1865. This couple is listed in the 1870 Windsor Twp Census, John as a saddler. Hannah died in 1871. A presumed son, Bennie, died at abt the age of one year and was buried in the Scottown Cemetery in 1866. John Q. is not shown in the 1880 Lawrence Co. Census. However, the 1895 census enumeration for Lawrence Co. lists several Hagamans in Union Twp., but no John. Any additional information regarding this family would be appreciated. Henry S. Hi, I am trying to check out a Joseph Hochgesang, possible child of Andreas Hochgesang and Martina Benkert who came into Dubois Co., IN, bef. 1850 from Bavaria, Germany. I think Joseph stopped at Lawrence Co (Ironton) as I found one that would fit in the 1860-1880 censuses. In 1900 he is in Dayton (Montgomery Co) where he may have died. Is there a mailing list for Montgomery Co? I tried what I think would work for an address-- but it bounced. I need marriage, death records. Can anyone help me with this fellow? thanks. Helen Zuber Keusch forever searching the EAKINS, FORD/FOARD, MELTON, WALCUP, SANDEFUR, EZELL, HANDLEY, THOMASSON, ZUBER, GUTEKUNST/GOODART, ANTHIS, BANGERT, LAND, CRABTREE, BENNETT, EDWARDS, REEVES, WOOFORD families--my lines; and on hubby's side the families of MEHRINGER, SCHITTER/SCHUETTER, HOCHGESANG, SCHMITT, HURST, BECHER, KEUSCH, ZIMMERMAN, ACKERMAN, BURGER, and HOPF.
Hi Helen, The LDS website shows a marriage for Joseph Hochgesang to Elizabeth Ruprecht on July 11, 1871 in Lawrence County, Ohio. The Lawrence County website confirms this date (at least in terms of the fact that it is found in the volume that contains the 1871 marriages). Additionally, a search on the Lawrence County website shows that Joseph ran a distillery in Ironton at "the south side of Pine between 3rd and 4th, according to the 1882 - 1883 Ironton Business Directory. A check of my Lawrence County resource books show nothing with this surname (at least spelled like it is). These books are Hardesty's Atlas, published in 1882, and the History of Lawrence County, Volumes 1 and 2 (published in 1990 and 2004, respectively). A check of my cemetery books shows the following grave: Hochgesang, Maria Margaretha, born on July 25, 1834, died on May 15, 1871, wife of J. This was in Calvary Cemetery, Section E, Upper Township, Lawrence County, Ohio. Just as a side note here, there appear to be a lot of German names in this cemetery. It's a large cemetery. There is a listing for an obituary for Mary Ann "Hochesang" in Lawrence County. It was in the Ironton Journal, May 24, 1871. A partial listing states, "Wife of Joseph, died in Ironton, 36 years." Additionally, there is a listing for an obituary for Joseph "Hochesang" in Lawrence County from 1900 through 1930 (a large span). An additional check of Ironton death records from 1909 - 1945 do not show Joseph there, so it's possible that he died in the range of 1900 through 1909. There are two Lawrence County websites to check for further information. They are www.lawrencecountyohio.com and http://www.scioto.org/Lawrence/catalogs/catalog.html. I hope that I have given you some good leads! - Jean Griesan Colorado -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2005 7:23 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHLAWREN] Hochgesang Hi, I am trying to check out a Joseph Hochgesang, possible child of Andreas Hochgesang and Martina Benkert who came into Dubois Co., IN, bef. 1850 from Bavaria, Germany. My gggrandfa, John P. EATON, had a brother named Richard M. EATON b. 1851 LawCo, OH. Richard M. EATON m. Mary E. (nee ?MILLER?), and they are found on the 1880 Census in Rome Twp. EATON is Captain Steamboat. I would like to learn if this Richard M. EATON is the brother of my gggrandfa. Although I cannot turn up this family in WV or OH after 1900, I did find a family closely resembling this one on the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses in CA. Does anyone know any of these folks?
