There were a few birth annoucements in the Ironton newspapers. Those were indexed by the Hamner Room clerks several years ago. Please be advised though, that the present policy is for the clerk to help patrons actually in the library. Requests for a check of that index can be forwarded to me, as the Corresponding Secretary of the Lawrence County Genealogical Society.

I'm trying to locate others who may be descendants/other relatives/researchers of Benjamin F., b 1866 OH, and Alice (Eaton) Forgey, b 1872 Lawrence Co, who are in Ironton on the 1910 Census, and he is a newspaper journalist at this time. In 1900 they are in Boyd Co KY where Benjamin is a school teacher. By 1930 the family is in Ashland, Boyd Co, KY and Benjamin Forgey is Manager of a newspaper there. Children of this couple are Madge, Chauncey, Julia Edna and John. Alice (Eaton) Forgey is the step-sister of my ggrandfa, John P. Eaton, and I'd like to share family info. Thanks, Nancy Edwards - in GA -

I found it listed in the new LawCo Hist. book but can't seem to find the exact location. Does anyone know specifically where this cemetery is? Nancy, On the maps of Rome Twp, just north of the Fairland East Elem, which is in section 22 of township 1, range 15, there is a small creek that crosses Rt 7 and enters the Ohio River. That creek is just north of the line between sections 22 & 23. In 1887 J. O. Gillett owned the property on the north (section 23) side of that section line, with the residence between the road and river. While working on the maps and list for the history, I was in there looking around. That land is now part of a subdivision, and none of the current residents know anything about a cemetery. The Gillette property was 75 acres, extending approx. 2/3 mile to the west, so the cemetery may have been on the steeper land at the foot of the river hills, land that wouldn't have been as well suited to agriculture. It doesn't show on any of the newer maps. I will try to find an older resident of the township, that may know something more on the subject. Madison Forgey owned the land to the south, and H. C. Brown to the north. If the cemetery was on the west side of the Rt 7 we're probably out of luck, because that area is part of the eastern end of the long awaited Rt 7 bypass. I am sure that each of you with a "Brick Wall" find it amazing that with all the Morrison researchers and cross-referencing; and with all the internet on-line connections we all have; that we can't find that family information we need. It is just crazy! I have been stuck for years on my John Morrison, b. c. 1801 in VA. He was in Lawrence Co., OH by 1824 when he married Sara Ankrim. Other Morrison's in Lawrence Co. at the time and of the age to have this John as a son would be: John b. c. 1776 or before Samuel b. c. 1778 or before William B. Morrison b. c.1778 or before The John Morrison b.c.1776 listed above in the 1820 Census for Lawrence Co., OH had 4 boys and 4 girls plus his wife. John was between 26 and 45 years of age. Two of his sons were between the ages of 10 and 16 years of age. One of his sons was between the ages of 16 and 26 years old. His final son was between 26 and 45. I believe he had a brother Samuel in the same area in 1820 with 8 sons and 3 daughters. Samuel was between the ages of 26 and 45 years old. Two of his sons were under 10 years of age. One son was between 10 and 16. Two of his sons were between 16 and 18. And his final three sons were between 16 and 26 years old. He had two daughters under 10. And his final daughter was between 16 and 25. I believe that William was at least one more brother with this group in Lawrence Co., OH in 1820. William was between 26 and 45 years of age. He had 4 sons and 2 daughters. He had 2 sons under 10 years old. One son between the ages of 10 and 16. And the oldest son between the ages of 16 and 26 years old. There were also in Lawrence Co in the early 1800's a Nathaniel; Joseph and Andrew. These names match very closely to the Nathaniel and Thankful Herriman families, but I can't find a connection. Also, the Samuel Morrison name is very dominant in the PA Morrison Families, but I can't find a connection. Also, the given names are similar to the Fauquier Co., VA Family names but I can't find a connection. Any thoughts out there???? Bruce
Thank you so much Henry. I suspected it was one and the same road because, like you, I know some of my ancestors recorded as living on River Road in the 1910 Census did live at some point on what is now Rt. 7. Appreciate your help. Nancy HenrySDillon wrote: > Nancy, > Not sure I fully know the answer to your question.
