The October 2007 meeting of the Lawrence County Genealogical Society will be at 6:30 PM on Tuesday October 2nd, in the meeting room of Briggs Lawrence County Public Library,321 S 4th St, Ironton, OH The speaker for the evening will be Keith Ashley. Keith is the President of the Meigs County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, and actively involved in the S.A.R. (Sons of the American Revolution) and other lineage groups. His grandchildren were inducted into First Families of OHIO at the 2007 OGS Annual Conference. This family is the first five generation group to be in FFO, with his grandparents, parents, Keith, his children, and now the grandchildren. For First Families of Ohio, you have to document you line back to one or more ancestors who lived in Ohio before 1821. The S.A.R. is the male equivalent of the D.A.R., and you have to document your line back to an individual who served during the American Revoluntionary War. Everyone is invited to come to our meeting and hear Keith talk about the various lineage groups and the process of documenting and submitting the applications. The Lawrence County Genealogical Society is a chapter of OGS, and we sponsor three lineage groups. 1. First Families of Lawrence County-for those who can document a line to a person who lived in Lawrence Co. before 1841 2. Civil War Families of Lawrence County-for those who can document a line to a person who served in the Civil War and lived in Lawrence County at some time in their life. This can includes siblings (of a direct ancestor) who served in the war. 3. NEW in 2007 Settlers and Builders of Lawrence County- for those who can document the line to a person who lived in Lawrence County after 1840 and before 1871. Ancestors who are eligible for First Families cannot be submitted for Settlers and Builders, even though they continued to live here. This is for families or individuals who either moved to Lawrence County or were born to late for First Families. There is an annual recognition reception on the first Saturday in November. The deadline for applications in any year is to be mailed by the first of Sept. or delivered to the chapter by the first Tuesday of Sept. 3. Nancy, I read the following post of yours with GREAT interest as I am the keeper of the BIAS MASTER TREE. Here is your posting, followed by some questions and hopefully you may have the answers. I am searching for Jefferson Workman son of Ellison Workman and Polly Ann Tull. First married Jennie Spurlock, then Virginia (Virgie) Cremeans daughter of Peter Cremeans and Julia Bias. Jefferson was born in 1875 Lawrence Co. OH. Virgie was born in Mason Co. WV. I am trying to find a death place, date and cemetery for them. Thank you for any help. Nancy First let me ask you if you found Jefferson's and Virgie's burial location? IF not let me know and maybe I can assist you with that search. Next, in regards to the parents of Virgie. I do not have her parents in my BIAS MASTER Tree..but I may have her mother as I do have a number of Julia Bias without spouses, maybe she is one of those??? Do you happen to know who the Parents of Julia Bias were? IF we can match Julia up to her parents then I can send you the Bias lineage all the way back to 1722...I would really like to get Julia's branch of the Bias family filled in. When I pass on all of my research, the BIAS MASTER TREE and my personal Family Tree will all go to KYOWVA, in Guyandotte. That way all of the info, photos, documents etc will be in one location for other researchers for posterity. I DO NOT place any of this information out on the internet as many of the individuals are still living. I am ALWAYS happy to give any info I have to other direct family researchers...including any and ALL source records, photos and documents I have found for their family members. Anyway, IF you can tell me any additional info about Julia Bias, I will gladly try to match her up in the MASTER TREE and pass on all of the lineage info for BIAS to you. I know you were asking about the Workman branch, but I thought I would take a chance and see if you were also working on or had worked on the Bias & Cremeans branch info as well. Carrie Bias Hoffert

    3. Nancy - I've been checking a little further, and I found a Tim and Virgie Workman and their 6 children in Rome, Lawrence Co, OH on the 1930 Census. It seems likely that this is the Virgie Workman in the Rome/Proctorville Cemetery (rather than your Virgie Workman), given that Tim Workman is listed just before her on the cemetery cd.
