When he entered service he gave Lawrence County, Ohio as his home of record. Soldier: ROY ELMER MOORE Born: April 9, 1929. Caucasian Date of loss: July 31, 1950. MIA When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 51 families in Ohio that have not been located. There is one family from Lawrence County that has not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. I saw this posted on another List and looked it up on Google: "The inquisitive mind of a child" Why are they selling poppies, Mummy? Selling poppies in town today. The poppies, child, are flowers of love. For the men who marched away. But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy? Why not a beautiful rose? Because my child, men fought and died In the fields where the poppies grow. But why are the poppies so red, Mummy? Why are the poppies so red? Red is the colour of blood, my child. The blood that our soldiers shed. The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy. Why does it have to be black? Black, my child, is the symbol of grief. For the men who never came back. But why, Mummy are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain. My tears are my fears for you my child. For the world is forgetting again. Author Unknown

However, I have not gotten around to checking the 1900 census for accuracy of that date of death. I have them both being buried in Locust Grove Cemetery. I would really enjoy hearing from any descendants you may know of the couple since I have so much to share on the Stephens's maternal line of Coles (spelled with an "s"). In fact, I see that Phebe Coles Stephens died sometime after 1870 in Lawrence County, which leads me to think there might be a tintype or daggeureotype somewhere of the couple and would be thrilled to see any photos of the Brammers as well.
