    3. Keep everything as it has been. It is a good list. I usually go to the message boards to see if their might be something more to learn about the queries. My names I am researching are: Dillon, Dawson, Malone, Rice. Other associated names: Kingery, Nance, Vermillion; husband's line: Riley, Vernier, Wood, Lawhorn and too many to mention. 3. Don, I feel somewhat the same as you, but tend to lean toward keeping the list going. Occasionally, though rarely, a post comes across which leads to some relevant information or a connection with someone I wouldn't likely otherwise locate. At its very best, we can't really expect posted information to be a continuous flow of beneficial information for anyone. But you, after all, are the one who has to take care of the necessary gritty maintenance work. At least, I do get the email addresses of the senders. Henry S. 1. [OHLAWREN] "Free people of color"-Roberts, Va. 1820's> Lawrence Co. 1830's onward
    2. martha brunson
    3. Hello list, I am researching the family of Pleasant Roberts born Christmas Day, 1789, and his wife Hannah, born 1794, both in Virginia. There are Monacan Indians in the area of both Campbell and Pittsylvania Counties Virginia named Roberts, and there are "free people of color" by the same surname there, as well. Same group? My particular Roberts family was held in slavery in a sort of indentured servitude, as all 138 workers received their freedom in 1827, per the owner's will. About 70 of them were sent to Lawrence Co. Ohio in 1827, and show up on the 1830 census there. I am searching for anyone else researching this Roberts family. Pleasant and Hannah's children were named Elizabeth/Betsey, Elvy, Paulina, Laura, Penelope, Charles, and John. I am searching for both Pleasant and Hannah's parents, and Hannah's maiden name. Their daughter Betsey is my ancestor, I have all of her life's records. I would love to share what I have gathered and learned of her parents' past. Some say this slave-owner in Va. was a Quaker and would purchase entire families so they wouldn't be sold apart. I have the emancipation records of all of his freed workers. Thank you. 3. I always look forward to reading this list and having it sent to me, please keep it up! I'm looking for information on Daniel Burke and his family. All his children were born in Lawrence County, Ohio and I can't make it there all the time to look things up, so it sure helps me to have this list. People are so busy right now with the holidays, its not easy to take the time right now to write to the list, so give it some more time. Polly Todd Vermilion, Ohio

Helen in Florida -----Original Message----- From: Lawcoloreman@aol.com To: OHLAWREN@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 21 Dec 2007 10:41 pm Subject: [OHLAWREN] Holiday greetings from your list admin Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to each of you. If for any reason you do not choose to celebrate Christmas, Happy Holidays. I hope 2007 has been a successful year, with some progress on your genealogy research, and possibly a brick wall or two knocked down. This list has been very quiet most of the year, with most of the traffic being the gatewayed messages for the Message board. Since so many of those are short answers to questions that weren't repeated, or thank yous to someone, I have been tempted to shut down the gateway. Another problem with the gateway is that (at least on AOL) the address of the person who posted the message isn't available, so the only way to respond is by going to the Message Board web page and posting a response there. I do know that once in a great while an interesting and possible useful item comes thru the gateway, so I am asking for a responce from you list members. Do you want to continue to get the gatewayed messages, or should I shut it down? If you want the list to be more helpful, try posting info or a query about a family line occasionally. If everyone on the list posted every month or two, we all would learn more about the families who have lived in Lawrence Co. As part of the Lawrence County Genealogical Societies preparations for the 2008 Ironton Memorial Day Parade, I am asking for info on any Lawrence County ancestors who served in WWI, and especially on any who died while in service. In past years we have honored Revolumtionary War Vets, War of 1812 vets, Civil War Vets, and Spanish American War Vets. We also celebrated some of the earliest churches. 1. [OHLAWREN] Lost Soldier from Lawrence Co, Ohio
    2. I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Lawrence County, Ohio as his home of record. Soldier: ROY ELMER MOORE DOB April 9, 1929. Caucasian DOL July 31, 1950. MIA When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 51 families in Ohio that have not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. Any qustions or comments, Please contact me at hgdavis@bellsouth.net I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. Though Mary was my paternal grandmother's grandmother, I know virtually nothing about her. From several sources she was described as an American Indian, both partially or full-blooded. She was married to McCager Dillon and lived much of her adult life in Windsor Twp., c1790 to 1874 and is buried with McCager in the Kingery Cemetery, Lawrence Co. OH. She had several daughters who had daughters, who had daughters. I am looking for one of these female descendants who is willing to be tested. The female descendant must be a direct female to female descendant, per the instructions from the testing laboratory (Family Tree DNA, Houston, TX). In this particular case the genetic markers which identify the American Indian DNA are transmitted only by the X chromosome from female to female from the original source, a female. If you have any questions please contact me. The test is a very simple swabbing of the inside of the cheek. Henry S. Dillon
