I'm trying to hunt down info on my g-grandmother. Her name at death was Dellsena Williams, wife of Samuel Elias Williams. She died in 1926 in McAndrews, Pike Co, KY. Before marriage, she was Dellsena Denny living in Jackson County, OH. Based on dates, I think the man listed as her father (Jacob Denny) was her step-father. I suspect the Denny name was given to Dellsena after he married her mother. I was looking over her death certificate and it listed her mother as Elizabeth Perry (may also be Parry) and Stev Smith. I'm thinking this name might be Steve Smith. It listed her date of birth as July 19, 1893 in Ohio. Since I'm not sure exactly where in Ohio she was born, I was going to try and check out all the counties surrounding Jackson in search of a birth record. Is there anyone going to the Lawrence County, OH probate court who might be able to do a lookup for me to see if a daughter was born on this date to Elizabeth and Stev (or some variation thereof)? I suspect they were not married at the time of Dellsena's birth. Not sure if they ever got married at all. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Yes you can get the exact document, but there is more work to do on the site yet. I'm looking forward to when they can complete what they have started. I think it is going to be more than Ancestry.com that you pay a lot of money for. And on the FamilySearch site, you can see the actual certificate. You can't do that on the OHS site. In early 2008 (we don't have an exact date yet) the FamilySearch site is supposed to have some of the early Ohio tax records online, so keep checking the site for those. There never was a question of closing down the list. That won't happen. What I was asking about was the possibility of closing the gateway by which queries sent to the message board also are posted to this list. There are some good queries, but there are also a lot of items that are just one person thanking another for some info. The message boards don't make it easy to send those thanks directly to the person being thanked. I do not understand how anyone can expect to do effective genealogy research, and get cooperation from others, while keeping themselves anonymous. If you have been reading the responses to my posting, you have seen most responders wanting to keep the gateway open. I'd like to see the list continue as well. I've met a lot of relatives via this site and it's been great! I hope that the list stays up for years to come as it's a great resource for future genealogists. For those not on the Gallia County list (I don't think I saw this come across this list), one of the members sent in a great site http://familysearchlabs.org/ where I found the actual death certificate of Charles Rice, someone I'd been unable to find a death certificate for for a long time. It also happened to say that his parents were William and Sarah Linnon Rice, and he was born in Kentucky which proves that he's the brother of Lucinda and a number of other Rices. I'm sure that this site can aid a number of other researchers in knocking down one or two of their brick walls as well. In addition to Charles, I also found two other direct ancestors' original death certificates on the site, two that I was going to send to the state for and have to pay for, and have to wait weeks to get. Happy Holidays to everyone! Linda Trent lindatrent@zoomnet.net
I agree with what Henry and others have said. I would like to see this list continue. Even though it has had mainly posts gatewayed from the Messge Board, there are many people (myself included) who rarely go to the Message Board.
