Dear Carol Jo Thompson <[email protected]>, It's a coincidence that I'm also researching BARRETT and WHITING [in Lake & Ashtabula Counties, Ohio] tho they were not related (to my knowledge). I'd be interrested to know the name of your Charlotte Kendall BARRETT's husband. Here is some information about my BARRETTs and WHITINGs. Write if anything sparks an idea- otherwise just delete this. Good luck in your search, Mary Kay COLE Ward <[email protected]> My ggrandmother Addie Edith BARRETT married in 1861 William Franklin COLE and they lived and raised their 4 childdren in Colebrook, Ashtabula Co, Ohio. Addie's father, Alfred BARRETT b abt 1808 in NY would probably have been near the age of Mr. BARRETT, the husband of your Charlotte KENDALL- b about 1801. Addie BARRETT's ggrandfather, David BARRETT was b 21 Feb 1777 in Killingly twp, Windham, CT and died 17 Mar 1840 in Kingsville, Ashtabula Co, Ohio. He and his wife Deborah FISHER had 6 more children besides Alfred: Hiram b 1798, Samuel b 1800, David b 1802, Eusebia 1804, William b 1806 and Emily b <1810]. An LDS Ancestral file submitter believed this family once lived in Muir, Ionia Co.,Mich. Looking at my Ohio map, Austinburg is in Ashtabula County where my BARRETTs lived. I've been looking at other BARRETTs in the Lake County area. My mother, who died a year ago at age 83, told me of WHITINGs in Lake County who were related to her CARTERs and WOODARDs. Her grandfather, Simeon CARTER's funeral notice mentioned a nephew, William WHITING. Notice of funeral: From the Painesville Telegraph, April 29, 1909: Sim Carters funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at his home in Kirtland. Largely attended and flowers were in abundance. Mormon Choir furnished music. Interment in Kirtland Cemetery. Pall bearers were children of the deceased- Albert C., Sim Jr., Theron, C., nephews William Whiting, Austin Hayden [aka Lyman Austin WOODARD HAYDEN- adopted by Hayden's as a child] and son-in-law, Newton Mills. WHITINGs are also mentioned in the obituary of the husband of my mother's "Aunt Hat" [Hattie Hazen], Charles Orlando WOODARD who died 2 Aug 1922 in Munson, Geauga Co, Ohio and is buried in Chardon Cemetery, Geauga Co, Ohio: His obituary published about August 1922 said that Charles O. Woodard was...one of the best known men in Munson and a life long resident. He was born in 1853, the son of Justin and Clarissa Ann Houghton Woodard, pioneers. He had married Hattie Hazen in 1875 and she and four children children survived him: Mrs. Belle Bosworth of Munson; Mrs. Nora Drake of Chagrin Falls; Mrs. Geraldine Gates of Akron; and J. L. WOODARD of Chester. The pall-bearers were Seymour, Eugene and Fred HAZEN, William and Forest WHITING and Austin HAYDEN. Id like to find more information about Ella and William (Bill) WHITING, who I think were the parents of Forest WHITING and about their ancestors and descendants. My Mom said there was some connection between William WHITING and her uncle, Deforest O. WOODARD b. Sept 10, 1854 who was probably adopted after the death of his mother in 1857 or 1858, as was his brother, Austin WOODARD HAYDEN. 17 Jul'99 Carol Jo Thompson < [email protected]> wrote: >MARCY KENDALL is listed as a "retired housekeeper", age 92, in the US >Census of 1860. In the same source it is stated that Charlotte died as Mrs. Myron Whiting in 1868. A cursory examination of Myron Whiting data would indicate that assertion is incorrect. It would appear that Whiting's first wife, Rhoda, died in 1830, he married Lucy Proctor in Trumbull County in January 1831, and he must have married again, but it looks like his third wife was someone named Helen. (It's possible there was another Mrs. Whiting between Lucy and Helen, but I found no evidence of that. -- Remember: I said I only did a cursory exam of Whiting's records!) Is there anyone who recognizes any of these names or could enlighten me >further about these people -- especial Marcy and Charlotte? >All information and suggestions will be most welcome.
