    2. This little book was written by H U Johnson, Orwell, Ohio in 1896. I wish I could print some of the stories in this little book, but I am afraid of copyright laws. The book is not indexed but it does mention the following names that I have found: In the beginning it just mentions last names of people from Connecticut who came: Cleveland Stow Warren Spafford Porter Holly Pease T. Shepard, Dr. Tinker, boatman McIntyre Proudfoot Forbes Gray Hungerford Atwater Benton Sawtel Barber E.Gunn & wife Mason Coffin Davenport Agnew Benham Ayres Hall Goodin Harris Wilcox Dunham Shepard Beard Bryant Munson Landon Hamilton In a chapter titled First Events it mentions the following names: First burial on the Reserve - Col. Alex Harper First sermon preached - Rev. Joseph Badger at Austinburg, August 1800 First Wedding - 1800 - John Blackburn and Nancy Bryan by Judge Kirtland First School - 1801 Taught by Perly Brush Debating Society met at the home of John Struthers as early as 1803. First store - Foster or Montgomery in 1802. Before and after supplied by Jas. E. Caldwell Blast furnace - Daniel Eaton in 1803 First gristmill - 1799 by WW Williams & Major Wyant near Newburg First Ball -held in Cleveland July 4, 1801 in the log cabin of Major Carter. John and Benj. Wood and R.H. Blinn were managers and "Sam" Jones, musician. In 1808 a mail route was established from Erie, PA to Cleveland and John Metcalf carried the mail on foot, until 1811. First Troop Drill - music by Joseph Burke and Lewis Dill "Uncle Ben" Stevens, settled in Warren, from Vermont suggested the First newspaper to be changed from Triump of Fame to Western Reserve Chronicle - editor was Mr. Bissel Under a Chapter called Reminiscences and Anecdotes the following names are mentioned with little stories.
