    1. Women's Relief Corps
    2. Hi! Some time ago someone posted a query about the Women's Relief Corp in Madison. I had been told it was for wounded, disabled and indigent veterans, but now I am told it was just for Civil War widows. I have not been to Madison Historical Society yet, and I should do that, but does anyone know more about this and where the records for this large institution might be? The township does not have any cemetery records for their block of the Middle Ridge Cemetery. While reading the stones this week, and we are not done, the death dates seem to run from about 1896 to 1946. I had no idea it was such a recent organization. All the stones are small rounded-top marble of the grey streaked type that feel sandy. They have the first name on one line, the surname on the next and the years on the third. They are all almost identical. In other cemeteries, we have noted metal stickpin type markers from WRC 110. I wonder about their significance as well. The Ohio Cottage, as it says over the doorway, is on Middle Ridge Road, not far from the cemetery. It is a massive brick and stone block building with pillars. A friend says it was sold a couple of years ago to a small business for very little money due to the millions it would cost to renovate it. Because of the name, did it serve all of Ohio or what territory? Would love to hear what others know. Genially, Cynthia in Lake County ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it.
