Bill, Sorry, I have no information on the surname Vosburgh within my Norwood records. No Effie, either. I will admit that I do not have the names of all the Stephen Norwood nor all the David Norwood children. Stephen's wife, Elisabeth Welch, may have been of English origin while David's wife, Maria Schaefer was probably of Germanic in ancestry. However, Jacob and John Norwood of the 1810 Columbia County, New York census were probably brothers and adding a Jacob to the family and knowing that a sister married a Mathias Hoogtailing could suggest that one of the family members had a daughter named Effie. While I would assume that "Effie" might be used in most any language, I have seen it and its variations most often in Germanic use, Effie, Elfi, Effi, Frida, Freda, Frieda, Friede, Friedel, Elfriede, Elfreda, Elfrida. David Norwood was born in 1776 and I know he had children born in 1802 (Sally), 1808 (Anna) and 1809 (Heinrich/Henry).....an earlier birth of Effie might be possible. My notes on the Norwood family are "rambling notes". As my prime interest has been Mary Norwood Wilson, I have been forced to dig into the entire family in order to find any information about Mary. djweber djwdjw@ix.netcom.com ------------------------- ---- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Reque" <reque@ix.netcom.com> To: <OHLAKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 06, 2003 6:26 AM Subject: Re: [OHLAKE] Stephen Norwood > I'm looking for an Effie Norwood who married a Vosburgh, probably around > Painesville, and had a daughter named Ellen Vosburgh, b. 1819 > Bill Reque > SF >
Yes, the Schaefer ancestry has been charted. [See Maitland Brower's data in Ancestry.com] and it is German. Again, I'm pretty sure Elizabeth Mariah Norwood, David's daughter, is the Effie Norwood I'm looking for.
