Spadaro, 68, of Lakeshore Blvd., died Wednesday, November 14, 2001, at his home on Lakeshore Blvd. He was born November 23, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Frank Spadaro and Jennie Sparasino Spadaro originally from Modica, Sicily. He was also the foster son of Frances and Louis DeBartolomeo of South Euclid. He was graduated in 1950 from Brush High School in South Euclid and from John Carroll University in 1972. Walt retired from Reliance Electric Company December 1, 1988 after 28 years service where he held many positions of responsibility including that of Plant Manager for the Ivanhoe Road Motor facility. He spent 6 months in Brazil, assisting to establish a motor plant in Sao Paolo. He transferred to the Ashtabula Facility in 1978 as Industrial Engineering Manager and at the time of his retirement was the facility Project Manager. In the 1970's he also was the owner and operator of ElectroResearch in Chagrin Falls, Ohio where his lab developed special insulation materials. He was involved in the insulations used in the Apollo II Command Module "Columbus" project which successfully took astronauts Neal Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins from the Earth to the Moon and brought them back safely. After retirement he was a consultant for two years for Advanced Mfg. Techniques, a software company owned and operated by his son, Michael. He then was a loan officer for First Choice Mortgage Company in Jefferson and subsequently for Liberty Mortgage in Ashtabula. Active in the Ashtabula County Board of Realtors he was awarded recognition as Affiliate of the Year in 1996. He moved to Madison from North Kingsville in 1996 where he designed and built his "dream" retirement home where he resided with his wife, Brenda and greatly enjoyed the view of Lake Erie from his home. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 through 1956 in the Seabees involved in construction projects in Japan, Midway Island, and Alaska. Survivors include his former wife, Cora Spadaro of Madison and their four children; Karen (Michael) Spadaro Smith of Madison, Michael Spadaro of Kirtland, Laurie Spadaro (Michael) Cutler of Perry, and Jeffrey (Anne) Spadaro of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by his wife, Brenda Schumann Spadaro and her daughters, Kellie Dennis Gibson (Kirk) Peine of Madison and Shellie Dennis Gibson (David) Byrne of Pittsburgh, PA. Other survivors include his sisters, Betty (Tony) Fabec of Willoughby, Ohio and Lana Lindquist of Tucson, AZ, and his foster sister, Rose (Bill) DeCapite of South Euclid, Ohio in addition to many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed the company of his eleven grandchildren; Keith (and Kate) Kodrin of Washington, DC, Mathew Kodrin of Kent, Kevin Kodrin of Bowling Green, Brandon Smith and Courtney Peine of Madison. Justin and Kaylee Cutler of Perry, Ross and Andrew Spadaro of Omaha, Nebraska and Natalie and Zachary Byrne of Pittsburgh, PA. Walt was active with local childrens activities including his volunteer work at the North Madison Elementary School and Madison area Youth Softball where he was lovingly known as "Papa" by all the children. He enjoyed the music of the local Madison Fine Arts Center Childrens Chorus. He was an Elder ot the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church prior to his relocation to Madison where he became a member of the Chapel United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 PM on Friday, November 16th at the Behm Family Funeral Home at 26 River St. in Madison. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 17th, 2001 at the Chapel United Methodist Church on Chapel and Hubbard Road with the Pastors Tom Orr of the Caledonia United Methodist Church and Vern Shepherd of Chapel Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery on River St. in Madison. Walt was the beneficiary of many blood donations and encourages able persons to become regular blood donors to the American Red Cross. Also, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve or to the Memorial Fund of the Chapel United Methodist Church in Madison.
