J. Congos, 68, Former Diamond Employe, Dies Victor Jacob Congos, Sr., 68, who more than 20 years ago organized the first Boy Scout troop in Fairport, died early today at his home at 528 Plum St., Fairport, following a lingering illness. Born Aug. 24, 1877, in Kortes Jarvi, Finland, Mr. Congos came to the United States when he was eight years of age. He was a Fairport resident from more than 50 years. On Nov. 9, 1898, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, and he served in the Spanish American war, with the 22nd infantry regiment. He was a member of the United-Spanish War Veterans, Camp 86, Painesville. Mr. Congos was a veteran employe of the Diamond Alkali Co. working in the lime kiln department. Several years ago he retired because of ill health, and later he received his 30-year service pin from the Diamond. He was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran church in Fairport, in which he held numerous offices through the years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hilma Congos; four sons, Hugo, Martin, Wilho and Carl, of Fairport; a brother, Leander, of Fairport; two sisters, Mrs. Lempi Fenton and Mrs. Ida Sprague, in Ashtabula; two stepdaughters, three stepsons; three grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. A son, Arthur, was killed in action June 12, 1944, while serving with the U. S. Army in France. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Congos residence, and at 1:20 p.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran church, corner of Eagle and New Sts., Fairport, with the Rev. Carl W. Molter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Perry cemetery. Friends may call at the Congos residence. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
