Dear Bill, You might try a lookup volunteer for the marriage index. It only goes to about 1904, but it is at Morley. If that does not work, you could e-mail Morley Library. The first way may be faster due to the backup at the library. The marriage department has original marriage index as well as the birth index, which is from 1867 to 1908. It is a bit spotty, so some children could be missed entirely. You could try writing them. Lighthouse keepers in Fairport should be well known at the Lighthouse Museum. Try writing them. I think they are closed for the season, so it may be awhile, but I would be quite certain they can help you with a lot of things. Addresses should all be found, as well as additional information on GenWeb-- www.rootsweb.com/~ohlake/ Happy Hunting! Joseph Babcock and Mary Josephine Chapman were married in Lake County April 8, 1869. In the 1880 census they are shown as having three children: Hattie, Donald, and Robert, born, respectively, about 1870, 1872, and 1875. Is anyone familiar with this family and, in particular, does anyone have information on the marriages of the three children as well as of any offspring they may have had? Joseph, who lived in Painesville, was a keeper of the lighthouse, and I am told is referenced in The History of the Western Reserve. His son Donald apparently succeeded him in that role (based on the 1920 census) and had a wife listed in that census as 'Lizzie.' I would greatly appreciate any help I can get on this family. Good day - Just to piggyback on what Cynthia said -- Do make contact with the cemetery. The staff were extremely helpful and I confirmed 4 ancestors buried there, only one with a stone. Cynthia, Thanks for looking. I appreciate your help. I'll get in touch with Deb Anselc. Mim
Dear Mim, Lake County Gen. Society has read the stones in Painesville. I searched my files for Axtel or Axtell and found nothing. Therefore, I would guess the stone is either nonexistent or illegible or something is spelled wrong. We are hoping to get these on-line by summer. You can contact Deb Anzelc at the cemetery. See US GenWeb for her address. Sorry we did not help much, yet. Re: Lake County Cemetery. My ancestors Lyman Clark Beebe and family are buried there. I am wondering if they were listed in that 1868 article. Lyman was buried there in 1867. Thanks in advance Joanne Beebe Donk
Cynthia, I noticed that Becky Falin copied the Evergreen Cemetery Inscriptions up through 1865. Do you know if she or anyone else plans to bring the dates forward a bit? I have a copy of the Painesville Telegraph for June 4, 1868 which has a column about visiting the cemetery on Patriot's Day and placing flowers on twenty soldiers graves. The soldiers are listed. One of them is Axtell Eddy. I would like to know if his stone is still in the Cemetery. Who should I contact to find out? Mim
Hello, again, There are a few updates on the Lake County OHGenWeb site at www.roostweb.com/~ohlake/ 1. Under Histories, there is a new link to a page about the Fairport, Painesville and Eastern Railroad. 2. Under Histories, there is a link to Fairport Harbor Light, another nice site about the lighthouse. 3. Under Histories, there is a new (old) letter regarding the history of Richmond, now Grand River. In addition, on the Lake County Genealogical Society Project Site, there are a few changes. The section descriptions for Mentor Cemetery have been changed thanks to Doug Kern, Cemetery Manager's help. We have added Brewster and Basham Cemeteries to Madison, although there are no stones and no names involved there. Happy Hunting, Cynthia webmaster for Lake Co OH GenWeb and LCGS Projects Sites

Dear Genealogy Friends, Morley Library and Lake County Genealogical Society are again hosting a Night Owl Prowl evening of research on February 7, 2003 from 5 to 11:00 pm. This is a Friday, and the library closes at 6:00. In addition to all genealogy, history and reference materials and the computer databases, we will have a few other features. The first hour will be a "Meet the Author" time, with three books of local historical interest and their authors. Later, Ronna Bryant will be speaking on "Finding Your Elusive Women Ancestors." Then I will do an in-depth look at FamilySearch.org. Going to lectures is optional and there will be lots of computer and research help available. For more information and an application (due in January) see the Lake County Genealogical Society Projects Site at www.rootsweb.com/~ohlcgs/ Cynthia Turk Member Lake County Genealogical Society
