    1. [OHLAKE] GenWeb updates
    2. Cynthia C Turk
    3. Dear Lake County Researchers, Several additions have been made to the Lake County OH GenWeb site recently. A new map link has been put in for the Auditor/Treasurer site. After you locate a property in the database, you can click on "map" and get a wonderful satellite view, or click on other things for street view, etc. A new page for Government has been created with this link as well as several other government office links. The reason for this is by popular demand. Many people are trying to locate government offices, especially the courts and the sheriff's office. More will go into this page at a later date, but for now it is mostly county level. There are several new biographies which were printed in the Telegraph in the 1860s and reprinted in "LakeLines," the newsletter of the Lake County Genealogical Society (actually before it was titled). Find stories under "biographies," of early Lake County Pioneers: Gen. Edward Paine Abraham Skinner Eli Bond Gov. Samuel Huntington Judge John Walworth Solomon Kingsbury Anson Sessions Ebenezer Smith Benjamin Blish Jedediah Hills. There are a few more which I will try to locate to copy. Happy Hunting! 3. I found a book online at HeritageQuest thru the Morley Library website. This book is titled: "The ancestors and descendants of Ebenezer and Martha Porter Williams of Painesville, Ohio, of the fourth generation in America: including biographical material and genealogies of the families of their ten children". (whew) The author is Percy William Lewis, 1903 - Published in La Grange, Illinois in 1974 (Ebenezer Williams 1767-1844) (Martha Porter Williams 1774 - 1851) A chapter covers each of the following: Ebenezer Williams Rhoda Williams George Williams Ebenezer Williams, 2nd William Williams Betsey Maria Williams Grant Fitch Williams Family and descendants of William Williams Laura Williams William George Williams Percy Williams Charles Tudor Williams, I Lucy Williams, II Edward Porter Williams Edward Mason Williams Sarah Granger Williams Lewis Mason Williams, Sr. Reba Louise Williams Mary Cushing Williams Mary Williams Elizabeth Williams Champion Williams At this time I am not able to assist with copies for anyone, but I believe you can obtain library cards from Morley Library. The barcode on the card will enable you to access Heritage Quest info. Website address for Morley Library is: www.morleylibrary.org Hope this helps someone. Ruth Sprowls

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BZB.2ACI/731.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks. I got an email yesterday with the same explanation. I took another look at the online images, magnifying the Ancestry.com image and I can see where the transcribera could have gotten confused. I also checked the 1830 census for Geauga County and the 1850 Lake County census and both listed Kirtland Township, not Rutland. It's good to get a second opinion. I know of localities in Lake County that have changed names over the years. Along the same lines I have seen Mentor spelled as Minton and Mintor. I know that this individual lived in Kirtland in other census years and may have been associated with the Mormans.

The Kir in Kirtland was read as Ru to get Rutland. The capital K looks like an R and the ir looks like a u.

    3. Hello, Seeing your reference to the Madison Ohio Historical Society, I just had to write to ask if you know where they are located now. I believe their web site is outdated, and I have mailed letters to them without ever receiving a reply. If you have any information about how to contact the Historical Society, that would be wonderful. Thanks very much. -Linda. ----- Original Message ----- From: <mkirk88@adelphia.net> To: <OHLAKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 7:26 AM Subject: [OHLAKE] Re: Do You Know this John Quincy Adams m Nancy Thomas ? > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BZB.2ACI/625.2.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Sandy, I live in Harpersfield, Ohio. I posted most of what I know. My family is connected to Nancy Thomas Adams through both her mother(Phoebe Lyon) and father(William Thomas). John + Nancy Adams are buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Madison,Lake Co. I think that my sister located an obit for John Q. Adams. I believe that he was a Civil War veteran. If I can locate the obit, I will post a transcription with this message thread. Good luck, ~Sandi
