I would like to know if there are any published marriage books for Lake County? (Genealogical Society or the Library?) I am interested in a marriage that would have occurred between 1906-1908. Thank You, ~Sandi

Only a week to go and Woodland Cemetery will be having its Sesquicentennial (150th) Celebration. This celebration is to honor the history and all people buried there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohclecem/woodland150.html A few additional notes: If you don't know where your ancestors are located, there will be index books on hand to look up where they are at. There will be port-a-johns on site since the cemetery does not have bathrooms or an office. If you are worried about the neighborhood or parking, there will be regular police, auxiliary police and traffic controllers on duty that day along with EMS. As for people wondering if they need a police escort or to carry a gun while going there any other time is a complete myth. I have been there many times by myself and never had any problems there. So please, if you can't make the event go another time. It is a wonderful beautiful cemetery. Just be a little cautious no matter what cemetery you are in. Even the ones you think are the safest may have an incident. Remember to bring a picnic basket, lawn chair, camera and have fun. I hope to see you there next Saturday (Pray no rain!!.) Michelle A. I am looking for info on a Nancy Seely (spelling variation) who lived in Ohio about this timeframe. Sincerely, Mike Peterson ------------ Source: Ancestry.com 1850 Ohio Census, Lake Co. Painesville Dist. No. 85, online Line 34 Dwelling 286, Family 289 Ira Seely, 68, M, [W], Carpenter $2000, born Ct [Connecticut] Alice, 63, F, [W], born Ct [Connecticut] Louisa, 32, F, [W], born Ohio Mary A., 27, F, [W], born Ohio Note: the race column was empty for the entire page, I assume this implies all on that page were "white". The online index led one to Image 37 but this family is actually on Image 38. I am chasing all Ira Seely, Seeley, Selee men hoping to find the father of my Peter Selee (var) (b. 1836). If anyone knows the above family or any male children named Peter, I would like to communicate. I am also interested in migration patterns and various surname spelling variations.
Thanks for the explanation. I went back to the LDS today and with some help I figured it out. I assume I could do the same thing with births and deaths. Next time.... Thanks again for the help.

When you get on the IGI (not online, but on the computer program).....look at the menu at the top that shows F2, F8, etc. Choose the filter one, and you're given choices as to how to filter. You press the enter key to mark the name of the state. You can filter marriages for Ohio, for instance. Then as they come up on the screen, choose F2 and create a holding file (READ all the choices)......[I'm not at the center of course, right now, so it's hard to tell you exactly, because I do it so automatically.] BEFORE exiting the IGI, be sure to print your holding file entries. You create the holding file by 'marking' the marriages you want by hitting the ENTER key. Thanks so much for answering. Could you explain to me how to do a filtered search. I asked at my LDS today, but neither of the volunteers had any idea how to do it. I'd appreciate your help so I can look at these records. Thanks Nancy
The available marriage records for Geauga Co. and Lake Co. have been extracted and entered in the IGI found at FamilySearch.org. Or you can go to a Family History Center and do a filtered search by surname and by the state of Ohio, and then create a holding file containing just the entries you choose from those two counties. Each entry will give you the couples' names and marriage date and county where married. Others are telling me this also. So where do I even look. According to the state info they don't go back that far with records ? Thanks for answering.... Nancy
You might find it by looking for the original county records. For instance, my gggrandfather's marriage is in the Geauga Co records. Depends on the city or township. Possibly because Lake Co wasn't formed [from parts of Geauga and Cuyahoga] until 1840. Can anyone tell me if there is anyplace where I can get vital records for Lake County for the 1820's-1830's. I've checked the LDS films and see no films listed for that. Is there a historical society for the area? Nay ideas ??? Thanks... Nancy
Hi - Thanks so much for this information. Can you tell me if it says that Michael is one of the children. I gather his age is hard to read. If it is 52 then he must be maybe a brother of one of the parents. I have no Michael on the list of names that has been passed down to me from my grandmother. Nor is there a Martha. So this is great help. Thanks again for looking for me. Nancy
The 1840 census for Mentor shows a head of family named Jacob Hoose , with several sons and daughters........1850 shows Jacob 53(only it is spelled Hose)and Sabrina 48 with these children?: Ezra 21, Michael, 52?, Nelson 18, Jacob 16, Charles 11, Albert 5, Laura 23, Olive 13, Lucy Ann 18, and Martha 3. It appears the family came to Ohio from New York. Have you found each child in a later census? Olive Hoose married Daniel M. Hopkins (one of my lines) on 13 March 1856. They had these children: Ella, Mina, and Charles D. The 1870 census for Lake Co. shows: 1870: Mentor p. 19, Daniel is 40, Olive 32, Ella 13, Mina 11. Daniel M. Hopkins was the son of Daniel Hopkins and Anna Churchill. >Today's Topics: > #1 [OHLAKE] HOOSE surname [Mrsrubi@aol.com] > >Administrivia: >To unsubscribe from OHLAKE-D, send a message to > > OHLAKE-D-request@rootsweb.com > >that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > >and no other text.
