    3. A big Thank You to this mailing list! It seems that Hopkins and Jackson are not funeral directors as I had assumed. They are roads that intersect where the Mentor City Cemetery is located...so it is Hopkins and Jackson Roads Cemetery! You are a helpful, friendly group! Thanks, Ann

    1. Benjamin J. Smith/ Mentor Cemeteries
    2. Phillip J Maxson
    3. Hello, I am wondering if anyone can help me read an old family group sheet. The penmanship is difficult to read in some places. The sheet is for Benjamin W. Smith. I am fairly sure that his place of death reads Mentor, OH. Burial information is: Hopkins & Jackson The name of the cememtery is the main problem. I looked at the choices that Lake County GebWeb page listed but none of those seemed to fit. The cememtery is written twice, once for Ben and once for his wife, Ella. It looks like any of these: Hole, Rods, Koods, Roohs. Does this give someone a clue as to where Ben and Ella might be buried? Thank you, Ann Maxson Houston, TX [email protected]

    1. Re: nauralization records
    2. Dear Marie, If your records would be prior to 1907, you could contact the probate court and ask if they could send you copies. They say they will bill you unless it is a lot. The first two of their 6 volumes are indexed on the Lake County Gen Web page. If your records would be after 1907, you will have to hire a researcher, as the common pleas court will not do any naturalization research. There is a card index in the common pleas court which covers all the county naturalization records, but many of the records referred to have not been found yet. (They do have 1910-1929) Again, they will not do phone or mail lookups. Hope this helps. 1. CRANDALL, Angeline Melissa
    2. At 15 years old or so CRANDALL, Angeline Melissa boarded a covered wagon and headed out west so she would not have to marry an older man. Her father was a Mormon,I believe. She married BRUNTY, John T. (from Ireland?) and it is believed that may have been in Susanville, Lassen Co., CA where she also gave birth to her son, BRUNTY, John F. b. 21/04/1865, however, there seem to be no records in Lassen Co. as it was a goldrush town. (The "F" in my Grandfather's name stands for Francisco (as in San Francisco), and I believe it's because John T. might have left Ireland during the potato family and gone straight for the gold. I have no idea where to start, but had such a situation in TN and it seemes as though everybody seemed to rally 'round me. Hope you will help too.

    1. Re: Guidance Needed
    2. Dear Ed, For Lake County obits you can write to Morley Library or Lake County Genealogical Society, both at 184 Phelps Street, Painesville, OH 44077. Charge is $.50 per obit. Both groups love donations for the genealogy collection. Should you have asked for pre-1986 in Willoughby, I would have also told you to try one of the west end libraries. Those obits may have been in the News Herald which was not indexed until the Painesville Telegraph closed in 1986. Happy Hunting! 2. Hello everyone, I am new to this mailing list and wonder if someone could point me in the right direction. I need a copy of the obit of Ray Otis Dunbar who died in Willoughby on Nov. 19, 1989. I have looked on the web page and can't find where I should write. Is there a library that would do this for a fee and what would this fee be ? I need to find out if he was the son of Arthur and Minnie Dunbar and if he had any children. I would greatly appreciate any guidance that could be given in this matter. Thank you !! Have a nice day, Ed

    1. Quadrennial Enumerations
    2. smithga
    3. Saw a message on the Ohio Roots list referring to Quadrennial Enummerations. The enumerations were used to determine voting districts, and, as the name suggests, were taken every four years from 1803 to 1911. Prior to 1863, enumerations recorded only white males. The Ohio Historical Center has some of these records, but none were listed for Lake County among others. Does anyone know if these censuses were ever taken in Lake Co and/or Geauga Co? And if so, where they could possibly be researched. G Smith [email protected] Boston, MA

    2. Rillene Nielsen
    3. Dear listers, I recieved the following post on another genealogy list. I double checked with the head of our local LDS Family History Center and he said they too had recieved a letter from SLC in reguard to this test. Guess we can all have some fun on the IGI and Ancestral File in the comfort of our own homes! Rillene N >>>Beginning about March 1st, possibly a few days later, the LDS Church will release a beta test of Family Search on the Internet for about a 3 week trial basis at: http://www.familysearch.org (Keep checking until they actually have it up and running.) They would like everyone to try it out and respond! After the short beta testing they will take it off the Internet in order to fix any problems.<<< ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 2. Seeking information on a Tunis Rockafellow and his wife Polly. In 1850 lived in Kirtland with wife Polly son Elliphlet next door to son Howell. Other children in the Kirtland area were Edwin and William Rockafellow. Tunis is buried at Kirtland Cemetary but where/when did Polly die? In 1860 she was living with a Bartteck family in Kirtland. She possibly died between 1860-61... Thank you.

    1. Re: Wells Family Geauga/Lake County
    2. Dear Eric, Yes, Leroy, or what used to be LeRoy is in the current Lake County. It is still quite rural. Early marriage certificates do not include much information at all. If they were underage, there might be a parent, and sometimes others went to apply for the license, but no relationship is on that. LDS did film Geauga county records from that time period and should be available to order at your local FHC. Birth records from early LeRoy are hard to come by. Good luck! 2. Eric Worthington
    3. Hello, Trying to find out more about this family: Daniel S. Wells b. 1808 VT mar. April 29, 1830 in Geauga County to Susan Craig b. 1807 NH Daniel S. Wells had a daughter Mary Louise/Louisa Wells born 1831 in "Leroy, Ohio" according to the book "Kansas and Kansans". I am trying to find out if there is birth information for Mary Louise and if there is more information from the marriage certificate such as parents for each. I got the marriage from an LDS extracted record, Geauga County. I am guessing they were living in the part of Geauga that became Lake because of the "Leroy", but don't know this for certain.
