To Melanie Cox, Lake County genweb site coordinator, Judy Kelble <[email protected]> Ohio state genweb assistant coordinator and Lake County, Ohio rootsweb list subscribers, I've tried to post two different queries to the Lake County, Ohio genweb site, one on 9 April and one 30 April, 1999 and they haven't been posted yet. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? Melanie, Judy or anyone, can you please help me get these queries posted? These are the ones I sent. Query #1 To: Melanie Cox <[email protected] ; Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 ; Subject: New query, Lake Co, OH; - In October 1932, Alfred L. JAYNE was living in Mentor Headlands, Lake County, Ohio; his bro., Forrest M. JAYNE was living in Flourtown, Montgomery County, Penn. and their sister, Mrs. Lewis T. CURTIS (Ethel JAYNE) was living in Riverside Dd(?) when their half-brother, William Barrett COLE (my grand-father) died in Painesville, Lake County, Ohio 18 Oct 1932 (per obit in P'ville Telegraph). The father of the JAYNE children, Rev. Luther R. Jayne b 1827 NY had been married 1st and had a daughter, Ennicia JAYNE born 1854 in Andover, Ashtabula Co.,Ohio. Rev. Luther JAYNE married 2nd abt. 1867 in Ashtabula County, OH, Addie BARRETT COLE who was born 6 Sep 1842 in Highland twp, Oakland County, Michigan. Please write if you have information regarding these people or if you can help me identify the place that Mrs. Lewis T. CURTIS (Ethel JAYNE) listed above was living in 1932 please write to me. I think there was a typographical error in the Painesville, Telegraph obituary. Is it possible that "Riverside Dd" means "Riverside Dr" in the Painesville or Lake County area? Thanks for any help! Mary Kay COLE Ward <[email protected]> Richmond, VA; Surnames: JAYNE, CURTIS, COLE, BARRETT, STOWE, BILLMAN ______ Query #2 To: Melanie Cox <[email protected]> 30 Apr 1999 Subject: Post Lake Co, OH query I'm trying to find out more about Jesse LONG b. abt 1849 of Kirtland, Lake Co, Ohio and his wife and their families. Jesse LONG married abt 1872 Cynthia A. HAYDEN who was born abt 1849 in Munson, Geauga Co., Ohio and she died sometime before Sep 1905 probably in Lake Co. or Geauga Co., Ohio. Cynthia's only known brother, Lyman Austin" [WOODARD] HAYDEN was not "born" into Cynthia's family; he was a WOODARD-the baby brother of my ggggrandmother Octalana WOODARD. Cynthia A. HAYDEN LONG's parents were Anson & Harriet TRUMAN HAYDEN. They had 4 known "biological children" all born in Munson, Geauga, Ohio were: 1.Cynthia A HAYDEN b abt 1849 m Jesse LONG 2. Almeda HAYDEN b Apr 1850 3. Martha Alice HAYDEN b abt 1851 m 29 Sep 1851 Horation RUSH 4. Emma Harriet HAYDEN b 10 Aug 1859 m 1879 William A. HARRISON On the 1870 Kirtland census when my gggrandfather Luman CARTER (74 yrs old) was still alive, he was living with his daughter, Charity CARTER BUMP and her husband Asa BUMP. The Isaac LONG family were their next door neighbors in Kirtland, Ohio. That 1870 census lists Isaac LONG (51 or 54 years old-who "works in grist mill" and was b. in Penn) as the head of the household, Sabra LONG 49 b. NY and Washington Long 17 -farm laborer b. Ohio. I believe they were Jesse LONG's parents. 10 years later in 1880, my gggrandfather, Luman CARTER was dead but his daughter, Charity CARTER BUMP and her husband Asa BUMP were still living in the same home and Jesse LONG & family were now their next door neighbors in the home where Isaac LONG & family had lived 10 years before. The 1880 Kirtland Village, Lake County, Ohio census) shows Jesse LONG 33, his wife Cynthia [HAYDEN]-31 & children Bernice 6 and George 5. When Cynthia A. HAYDEN was 11 yrs old in 1860, her parents had taken another child into their family. He was 3 year old LYMAN AUSTIN WOODARD b. 11 Feb 1857 Munson, Geauga Co, Ohio, the son of Wilson WOODARD and Silala TRUMAN who probably had some connection to the early Mormon church. Lyman "Austin" WOODARD and his 8 siblings were left motherless when he was one year old. Three year old Lyman A. WOODARD was found (per the 1860 Munson, Geauga Co., OH census) living with Anson HAYDEN & wife Harriet TRUMAN HAYDEN and their children in Munson, Ohio. Sometime after that he either was adopted or just took the last name of HAYDEN and was known as "Austin HAYDEN for the rest of his 91 years of life. My mother said her "Uncle Austin" was a small, wiry man who played the fiddle and loved to dance. Lyman Austin [WOODARD] HAYDEN d 12 Jan 1948. He had married abt 1881 Mary E. BUTTON b 1851of Concord, Lake County, Ohio d 15 May 1940 and both are buried in Lot 4, Maple Grove Cem., Thompson, Ohio. They lived in Munson, Geauga Co, Ohio and had at least 2 children there: 1. Ai Harmon HAYDEN b 1883 died 16 Jun 1938 wife Mrs. Maude C. HAYDEN b 1887-d 15 Dec 1981 both are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Thompson, Ohio. 2 sons: Austin b est 1904 and Phillip F. b 1906. 2. M. D. HAYDEN was b. est 1885 married est. 1905 Mae Winchell who was small, pretty & soft spoken. They had no children. OBITUARY: 15 Jan 1948 issue of the [Ohio] Geauga Republican-Record: "L. A. HAYDEN: Funeral services were held Tuesday at Parker funeral home for Lyman Austin HAYDEN, 91, who died Monday at the home of his son, M.D. HAYDEN, Chardon-Mentor Rd., after a short illness. The Rev. G.L. Diehl, pastor of the Chardon Congregational Church officiated and the burial was at the Thompson cemetery. Mr. HAYDEN was born in Munson Feb. 11, 1857, and lived his entire life in Geauga county where he was engaged in farming before his retirement many years ago. He was married to the former Mary E. BUTTON of Concord. Besides his son, M.D. HAYDEN, he is survived by two grandsons, Austin, of Thompson and Phillip F. of Ravenna. Cynthia A. HAYDEN LONG had died before her father, Anson HAYDEN, died at age 83 in 1905 a very brief notice in the Geauga County Record of 22 Sep 1905 listed his surviving children as "Austin" Hayden of West Chardon, OH and Mrs. William HARRISON of Hambden, OH. Cynthia's mother, Harriet TRUMAN HAYDEN, wife of Anson, died of consumption 1 May 1876 at Munson, Geauga Co, Ohio at the age of 51 years and 11 months. Her death notice says Mrs. HAYDEN had been a great sufferer for five years but bore her sufferings with the fortitude for which woman is remarkable. A large gathering of friends testified their respect by attendance at the funeral services at North Munson, on the 3rd inst., conducted by Prof. HAYDEN. Harriet TRUMAN was born abt. 1824 in Delaware County, NY and she m. Anson HAYDEN 22 Feb 1846. I think the reason they "adopted?" Silala's 3 yr old Lyman A. WOODARD (per the1860 Munson Twp., Geauga Co. , Ohio census) is because Harriet TRUMAN and Silala TRUMAN b 1819 NY probably were sisters as each ones maiden name was TRUMAN and their husbands were both born in Bennington County, Vermont. I've been told that the Geauga County Geneological Society in Chardon has Probate Court microfilm records which might have a record of this adoption by Haydens around 1860 but I haven't been able to get it yet. My great grandmother, Octalana WOODARD CARTER b. Jan 1845 and her brother, Lyman A Woodard b. Feb. 11, 1857 in Geauga County, Ohio were two of the 9 children born to Wilson and Silala TRUMAN WOODARD. Silala (Lila / Sally) TRUMAN WOODARD, the dau. of Jeremiah & Rachel TRUMAN/ TREMAIN apparently died soon after the birth of her last baby in 1858 at about age 37. Silala was buried in the Kirtland Mormon Temple Cemetery, Kirtland, Ohio as were also her parents and her oldest daughter, Octalana WOODARD CARTER who d. 1881. Octalana WOODARD was wife of Simeon CARTER, the daughter-in-law of Luman CARTER, and the sister-in-law of Charity CARTER BUMP. If you think you have any pieces to the LONG / HAYDEN-ie. Cynthia's, "Austin"s and MY tangled family puzzle, PLEASE write. Gratefully, Mary Kay COLE Ward, 1432 Yeardley Drive, Richmond, VA 23225-2906 <[email protected]> Surnames: WOODARD, CARTER, HAYDEN, LONG, BUMP, TRUMAN ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Dear Ed, I'm only writing because I am familiar with the Huntsburg, Geauga County, area and have enjoyed some lovely days in that beautiful part of the country. There is a JUDD family that has lived in that area for generations and Eleanor and Dennis JUDD still live there. In fact, they have revived the "sugar bush" and they are again making maple syrup every spring. My Mary (Polly) Ann BREWER married my gggrandfather, Jonathan COLE somewhere in Massachusetts. She descended from John BREWER b 29 Sep 1669 Middlesex County, Mass whose son was William BREWER b 1707 who married Abigail GARFIELD. Good luck with your search, Ed! Barb; If you are near a Family History Center try to see if you can find records on their library CD. I ordered one on a hospital in Troy, OH a few years ago. It told the names and ages of everyone living there. Sandy.

Any one know where this city would have been? Supposedly William TUTTLE's wife died there in 1871. Thank you.
hello all, When coming to a new place I like to introduce myself, and this is no exception. My earliest Lake County family is my McMACKIN line, with John MCMACKIN & his wife Bede or Beda ELLIS coming to that area soon after 1800 when it was opened up to further settlement after the Revolution. John's mother Elizabeth McMACKIN reportedly also came with them & is buried with other family members in Madison. My father, Jay McMackin, & mother, Ellen Ryan, were born in Madison Lake County in 1905 & 1906 i now live in Delaware & am a consultant working in the field of assisting individuals, clubs etc . in preserving family or other papers, memorabilia, photographs, stories, etc. Other related family names from Lake county from the 1800s into the 1900s follow. I'm glad to have been guided to the list by Sandy McSpadden & look forward to sharing information.
