Dear Marcia, Re: Your surnames (and mine) in Lake Co. (and neighboring Ashtabula Co.) -OWEN AND GREEN: OWEN: - My Joel OWEN b 13 Apr 1771 in Hebron, Tolland Co, CT and his wife, Mary KNEELAND were among the earliest pioneers to settle in Saybrook, Ashtabula Co, OH where they had six daughters [but no known sons]. I've been successful in finding their ancestry. GREEN: My Dinah GREEN was b 1783 in Rhode Island and married Abiram WOODARD 10 Aug 1801 in Sandgate, Bennington County, Vermont where they bore and raised [at least] 12 children. They moved to Munson, Geauga Co, Ohio about 1835. I'm research their WOODARD descendants some who lived in Lake County, Ohio. I'd like to find my Dinah GREEN's parents and ancestors but so far I have had no luck-- although I've also tried looking at other GREENs who came to the Lake County, Ohio area. Do you think we have any connection? Hi Everyone, I've been watching and reading this list for awhile. I'm sure glad to see all the postings this summer. I haven't been able to connect with anyone yet, but maybe one day I will. My surnames are: Lewis, Fox, Peterson, MacLautheran (various spellings to this name - Lutheran). Cindy

One can never predict these things, can we? And as a follow up to your post about the names you're looking for, I'd be interested in knowing more about the towns/ areas & the time period the group members are researching. Who knows, sharing this sort of information we may bump into someone who has a lot of expereince with a certain area & who can prove very valuable to us. For my part, I'm interested in the McMACKIN family who lived in Painesville & Madison in the early 1800s through the mid 1900s, with the main farm & orchards of Dan Burchard MCMACKIN (son of Charles MCMACKIN) which he farmed with a number of his sons from his marriage to Susan HALL. It was located on a corner in North Madison, north of Route 20 at Chapel Road & another road which totally slips my mind now. Now this is a perfect example of why I need that road Atlas! regards, Susan McMackin Reynolds, Lewes DE Chronic Illness & Life Challenges Workshops

Dear Carol Jo Thompson <[email protected]>, It's a coincidence that I'm also researching BARRETT and WHITING [in Lake & Ashtabula Counties, Ohio] tho they were not related (to my knowledge). I'd be interrested to know the name of your Charlotte Kendall BARRETT's husband. Here is some information about my BARRETTs and WHITINGs. Write if anything sparks an idea- otherwise just delete this. Good luck in your search, Mary Kay COLE Ward <[email protected]> My ggrandmother Addie Edith BARRETT married in 1861 William Franklin COLE and they lived and raised their 4 childdren in Colebrook, Ashtabula Co, Ohio. Addie's father, Alfred BARRETT b abt 1808 in NY would probably have been near the age of Mr. BARRETT, the husband of your Charlotte KENDALL- b about 1801. Addie BARRETT's ggrandfather, David BARRETT was b 21 Feb 1777 in Killingly twp, Windham, CT and died 17 Mar 1840 in Kingsville, Ashtabula Co, Ohio. He and his wife Deborah FISHER had 6 more children besides Alfred: Hiram b 1798, Samuel b 1800, David b 1802, Eusebia 1804, William b 1806 and Emily b <1810]. An LDS Ancestral file submitter believed this family once lived in Muir, Ionia Co.,Mich. Looking at my Ohio map, Austinburg is in Ashtabula County where my BARRETTs lived. I've been looking at other BARRETTs in the Lake County area. My mother, who died a year ago at age 83, told me of WHITINGs in Lake County who were related to her CARTERs and WOODARDs. Her grandfather, Simeon CARTER's funeral notice mentioned a nephew, William WHITING. Notice of funeral: From the Painesville Telegraph, April 29, 1909: Sim Carters funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at his home in Kirtland. Largely attended and flowers were in abundance. Mormon Choir furnished music. Interment in Kirtland Cemetery. Pall bearers were children of the deceased- Albert C., Sim Jr., Theron, C., nephews William Whiting, Austin Hayden [aka Lyman Austin WOODARD HAYDEN- adopted by Hayden's as a child] and son-in-law, Newton Mills. WHITINGs are also mentioned in the obituary of the husband of my mother's "Aunt Hat" [Hattie Hazen], Charles Orlando WOODARD who died 2 Aug 1922 in Munson, Geauga Co, Ohio and is buried in Chardon Cemetery, Geauga Co, Ohio: His obituary published about August 1922 said that Charles O. Woodard was...one of the best known men in Munson and a life long resident. He was born in 1853, the son of Justin and Clarissa Ann Houghton Woodard, pioneers. He had married Hattie Hazen in 1875 and she and four children children survived him: Mrs. Belle Bosworth of Munson; Mrs. Nora Drake of Chagrin Falls; Mrs. Geraldine Gates of Akron; and J. L. WOODARD of Chester. The pall-bearers were Seymour, Eugene and Fred HAZEN, William and Forest WHITING and Austin HAYDEN. Id like to find more information about Ella and William (Bill) WHITING, who I think were the parents of Forest WHITING and about their ancestors and descendants. My Mom said there was some connection between William WHITING and her uncle, Deforest O. WOODARD b. Sept 10, 1854 who was probably adopted after the death of his mother in 1857 or 1858, as was his brother, Austin WOODARD HAYDEN. 17 Jul'99 Carol Jo Thompson < [email protected]> wrote: >MARCY KENDALL is listed as a "retired housekeeper", age 92, in the US >Census of 1860. MARCY KENDALL is listed as a "retired housekeeper", age 92, in the US Census of 1860. At that time she was living with her daughter, 59 year old CHARLOTTE KENDALL BARRETT. To date I have been unable to locate any death or cemetery records for either. The book, Pioneer Women of Ohio, indicates that Marcy died at the age of 95 but gives no documentation of any kind for their statement. In the same source it is stated that Charlotte died as Mrs. Myron Whiting in 1868. A cursory examination of Myron Whiting data would indicate that assertion is incorrect. It would appear that Whiting's first wife, Rhoda, died in 1830, he married Lucy Proctor in Trumbull County in January 1831, and he must have married again, but it looks like his third wife was someone named Helen. (It's possible there was another Mrs. Whiting between Lucy and Helen, but I found no evidence of that. -- Remember: I said I only did a cursory exam of Whiting's records!) Is there anyone who recognizes any of these names or could enlighten me further about these people -- especial Marcy and Charlotte? All information and suggestions will be most welcome. Dear Richard Barrett, You wrote: 20 Jun 1999 >Need parents of Hulbert Prosser, b. September 20, 1874, <Andover, >Ashtabula Co., Ohio; d. January 07, 1952, Andover, Ashtabula Co., Ohio. > He was the father of Marjorie Eleanor Prosser who married David Parmly Blackmore >of Lake Co., Ohio.> I've been searching for clues thru the Barrett/ Parmly connections in Lake County, Ohio. My Addie E. BARRETT COLE lived with her 2nd husband, Rev. Luther R. JAYNE in Andover twp, Ashtabula Co, Ohio in 1870 [per the census- Pg. 2, Dwelling 16, family 17]. So they were living in Andover when your Hulbert PROSSER was born there in 1874. Just yesterday I wrote to Jim Wal...<[email protected]> & Barb Trautlein and sent the following product of my "mulling over" the Parmly/ Barrett stuff from the James L. Parmly sketch in "History of the Western Reserve". Jim sent me this additional info- some of which conflicts with that in the above mentioned sketch. James L. Parmly and his 1st wife, Marian A. Woods, wed 7 Oct 1855 in Lake county, Ohio, acc. to Dorothy Smallwood's PARMELEE data. She died in 1899 on Dec 26 acc to tombstone at church of christ cem. at Perry, Ohio. They had son, Harry b (6 may 1866-16 jul 1866, acc to tombstone at christ church). Jim says, I have Ruth Eliza PARMLY b abt 1875 acc to Charles Ward PARMELEE's "PARMELEES: 300 Years in America", -- but this book is loaded with mistakes throughout. With this info from Jim, it seems the children, Harry B. and Ruth Eliza PARMLY were born to the 1st wife, and not after he married his 2nd, Ruth E. BARRETT in 1901 when James PARMLY was abt 70 yrs old. Regards! Mary Kay COLE WARD- Richmond, Virginia. Mary Kay's "mulling's" about the PARMLY sketch in "History of the Western Reserve" James Lownes Parmly was born 13 Aug 1832 in Lake Co, Ohio. He fought in the Civil War and married his first wife Marian A. Woods in his youth (maybe age 20+?). She died in 1899 --when he was 67 yrs old--and the sketch says they had no children. They had probably been married over 40 years. James L. Parmly was 69 yrs old when he married his 2nd wife 2 years later, on 3 Jan 1901 - Mary E. BARRETT the dau. of F.E and Ruth STEPHENS BARRETT, of Painesville, Ohio. Mary E. BARRETT probably was about 30 years old, so she must have been about 40 years younger than James PARMLY. Mary and James PARMLY were only married for 7 years when he died 31 Jan 1908 at age 75! During those 7 years they had 2 children, Henry B. PARMLY probably born about 1902 and Ruth Eliza PARMLY born about 1904. Their father must have been in his early 70's when they were born because they were probably only about 4 & 6 yrs old when their father died. So Mary E. BARRETT was probably born about 1870; her brother, Courtney BARRETT was born 1 Dec 1869; her brother, Dell BARRETT and her sister, Mrs. Frank COLE were probably born in the 1870's. So their parents, F. E. BARRETT and Ruth STEPHENS were probably born about 1850. Hmmmmm. Where did these BARRETTs come from? Who was Frank COLE and what was his wife, Miss BARRETT's first name? ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Dear Barb Trautlein <[email protected]> and friends, Here's more re: BARTLETT, STOCKWELL another researcher sent me. Let me know if it connects with anyone. Mary Kay COLE Ward, Richmond, VA " I have the two volume set of "Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve," and there's no Mary Barrett mentioned. However, on p. 716 of vol. II, as part of Brunswick, Medina County, it says about William BARRETT: "Lucinda Freese came, when quite young, from Lee, Massachusetts, in 1818, with her father's family, and grew to be a lovely young lady, endowed with many graces, and one of the sweetest of tempers. She mearried Willam Barrett, and is the mother of five sons and five daughters. She is now [1896?] 85 years old and reads and writes without the aid of glasses. . . ." The only BARRETTS mentioned in the two volumes are: Almira, Amos, Annis, Brnjamin, Eliza, J.W., Judson, Mary [Oops! More below], Oliver, Saphrona, Susan E., William [as given above]. "Painesville, Mentor County, p. 977 in vol II: "Mrs. E. L. Stockwell, (Abigail Freeman), came with her parents from Morris, NY in 1836 and settled on the farm where she still lives. There were but two frame houses near them and one of these was partly of logs. She was married in 1842. Her son resides in Mentor near his parents, and their daughter, Mrs. Mary Barrett, in Chicago. . . ." ________________________________________________________________ Get secure free e-mail that you don't need Web access to use from Juno, the world's second largest online service.
