The first volume of the Cemetery Records of Knox County, Ohio that contains the Forrest Cemetery was several years in the making - 173 cemeteries, in 22 townships, approximately 36,000 legible stones. The committee was made up of knowledgeable genealogist who were able to add much genealogy value to the volumes, by through other research, adding maiden names, and sometime determine whether the the sole date on the marker was the birth or death date. The second volume is for the two large cemeteries in Mount Vernon, and contain over 26,000 known graves. The Forrest Cemetery is a very large site, perhaps 4,800 graves, and it is never known, especially in a cemetery of over a 100 years, just how many unmarked or unknown graves there are. But it is generally believed to be very many. With your Harrison Thompson's death certificate being so recent - 1948 - the Cemetery office may have records that were overlooked at the time of the compiling of the Knox County Cemetery books in 1991. While I do not have a mailing address for Forrest Cemetery, a letter to Fredericktown City Hall may start you on your search. Or the Fredericktown or Mount Vernon Public Libraries. The cemetery books give an address for the Knox County Genealogical Society P O Box 1098 Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. It's been over forty years since I lived in Mt. Vernon, but I'll bet you will find some friendly Crazy Knox Countian to help you. <Anyone not knowing where the term Crazy Knox came from has not been involved in county politics very long> ~~~~ Ed & Mary Ann wrote: Thank you for your help. I found Harrison Thompson's death certificate and it says that he is buried in the Forest cemetery. Thank you for also letting me know where the cemetery is located, maybe I can try to visit there sometime.
