I can't offer much but I do know that some folks went on the Erie Canal from New York to Ohio and Indiana and wound up in Canada for awhile. Descendants of Remus Terry Generation No. 1 1. REMUS TERRY was born Abt. 1795 in NY, and died Aft. 1850. He married MATILDA "JANE" PAUGH. She was born Abt. 1800 in NY, and died Aft. 1850. Notes for REMUS TERRY: 1850 Census for Benton Township in Elkhart County Indiana on page 140B: Household # 1847: Remus Terry 55 year old male farmer with $800 in real estate born in New York, Jane Terry 50 year old female born in New York, and Abigail M. 16 year old female born in New York. Notes for MATILDA "JANE" PAUGH: Another family researcher identified Remus's wife as Jane Horton born 1794 in Fishkill, Dutchess Co NY and the mother of four children.
