Oh Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Knox/421 Surname: Williams, Baker, Gearhart ------------------------- Hi: everyone: searching for information on: Chris Williams was son of Swain Williams he is in the Jersey Twp, Licking County, OHIO census in 1870. listed as 4 years old. It is possible He was born at Alexandria or Centerburg OHIO since he remembered both these towns and told stories about them. He was born on April 24, 1866. He left Ohio at the age of 17 moving to Elwood Indiana. Chris ended up living in Elwood Indiana for 45+ years, have letters written by his Daughter, Hazel Williams Baker 415 N 11 St. Elwood, Ind. (Married a C. H.(Claudons) Baker) C. H. Baker was a highway patrolman in Ohio even when He and Hazel lived in Elwood, Indiana in 1945. C. H. and Hazel eventually moved to Columbus, Ohio lived at 1581 E Arlington AVE. Columbus, OH in 1948. When they moved they took Chris Williams, Hazel's dad with them even tho he did not want to move. She says in a letter that he could not stay there by himself. So he must have been a widower at the time. She also mentions that they first moved to Sligo Ohio a small town 5 miles from Wilmington, OHIO. Her Husband C.H. (Claudons) worked in Wilmington, OHIO at the time with the Ohio State Hiway patrol. Then Claudons was promoted to the General Headquarters of the Ohio State Patrol in Columbus, so they moved again to Columbus. Taking Hazel's dad, Chris with them. Chris Williams was 82 years old April 24, 1948 one month after the letter refered to was mailed. 1870 Jersey Twp., Licking Co. Ohio census Williams, Swain O., 55, farmer, RE $5000, PP $600, b. Hazel Williams Baker mentions a visit with Aunt Lizzie in 1936) Christofer, 4, b. Ohio (this is Chris born April 24, 1866) The letter referred to above was written to Arthur Redifer Gearhart, first cousin to Hazel Baker. Arthur was born Dec 18, 1873 in Licking Co. OHIO, he may have been born in Alexandria or Centerburg also. Hazel writes in her letter from Columbus Ohio that they now live about 18 miles from where Arthur was born. Would that be Licking Co? Arthur was the son of Charles Simon and Rosa E. Williams Gearhart. Rosa was a sister to Chris Williams. Knox Co. Census info: 1880 Hilliar Twp., Knox Co. OH, pg. 69B Geahart, C.S., 32, laborer, b. OH (Susie is nickname for Lura) Charles and Rosa Gearhart and their family, Arthur, Bertha, May, and Lura all moved to California by 1900-1910. Also Looking for info on Frank Williams, real name may have been Francis. Would have been son of Swain Williams of Jersey Twp., Licking Co. Ohio ,brother to Chris Williams according to information on the back of a picture of Frank and his family, Frank was the oldest brother to my Gr grand mother Rosilla (Rosa E.) Williams. but that is contrary to information in the census. Frank evidently moved to Dunlap, Montpelier area, the only evidence I have of that is the picture taken by Geo. B. Hawkins, Operator(studio operator) and the names of the towns of Dunlap and Montpelier, Ohio on the photo. I believe Francis or Frank may have been born about 1857. Montpelier is in Williams County. and it appears that Dunlap is in Hamilton County. Does anyone know this family or have information on any of them? I would appreciate your help. thank you.
