And yes, the surname will be found spelled many different ways -- Winteringer - Winterringer - Wintringer. They're all the same clan. The immigrant Bernard landed at Philadelphia in 1753, married Sarah Chatwin there in 1760, lived a short while in Maryland and then moved to Northumberland Co., PA. About 1797 he moved his family to Jefferson Co., OH and there is a lot of information available on the family from historical accounts of Steubenville. One of their sons, Nathan, was quite well known for being a boat builder and having a thriving shipping business on the Ohio River. I now need to research which of their sons was Kenneth 's ancestor in Knox County. Having his father's name helps tremendously. I so appreciate all the information that you and Cal and others have given me. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing? Last night on PBS there was a panel discussing what the whole internet/computer situation will be in just 10 years, and it's unbelievable! Karen
