In the 'Handybook for Genealogists' it says that a few counties in Ohio have birth and death records from as early as 1840. In Knox county birth and death records started in 1867. The only way to get earlier birth dates would be from tombstones, obituaries, family records, church records and some military pension files will list birthdates for children.
