Wilma, Sounds like you have quite a puzzle to solve - I hate it when the second wife has the same name as the first... You might be able to tell if your James Grear & wife came together to Knox county by looking at land records and see if she signed off on any of the deeds. Of coarse, if he was old when he came to Knox he may not have purchased land but just lived with kids...but land records can answer many family questions. I don't know if any of these obits will help but here goes... James Greer d. 20 June 1880 age 90 a pioneer resident of Knox Co, died at his home in Jefferson Twp, he was father of Col B. A. F. Greer. Capt James Greer d. 23 May 1867 b. 20 Aug 1808 2nd s/o Col John Greer, died at his residence in Mt. Holly, born Jefferson Co, Ohio, father removed Knox Co in 1810 near Danville, age 23 married 1846, moved west to Illinois and Missouri about 6 years ago then bought farm in Holmes Co, then about 2 years ago purchased farm that he died on. Buried Greer Cem.
