Adams)(B.11/21/1912 now 92), is the only surviving niece of your grandfather Joseph W. She is in a rest home in Oakland, California. Her father was Walter Dana., brother of Joseph W.(Joe) and John Donnan (Don). She and her brothers used to go up to stay with Uncle Joe. My dad (Walter Dana Jr.), would tell me about how he and his twin brother Jack (Jacob), use to pan gold on the Yuba river with their uncle Joe. They both had rings made from that gold. Col. Joseph W. Vance (b. 1808, d. 4/8/1864) was married (5/25/1838) to Sarah Ann White (b. 1810, d. 9/26/1876) by the then Mayor of Pittsburg, Pa. Hon. Jonas R. McClintock, they had eight children. John White Vance (b.1839, d. 4/22/1856), Sarah Ann Vance (b.1841, d.12/8/1908), Alfred H. Vance (b. 11/6/1843, d. 5/28/1925) married to Laura V. Wolfe, Agnes Ella Vance (b.1845, d. 11/4/1909), Walter Lowrie Vance (b.1847, d.12/14/1909), Emily C. Vance (b.1871), Married to (Hyde), Nannie Vance (b.1849, d. 6/30/1904), married(1872), to Henry C. Whitcher (d. 12/23/1905), & Hattie Vance (b.1854, d. 4/23/1852). Walter Lowrie was the father of Joseph W. (b.1874), John Donnan (b.1877), & Walter Dana Sr. (b.1879). They also had a sister Sarah.
