Myron, Your message tonight was very interesting and informative. I live in California and for years I traveled on Workman Mill Road and I know there is a Cemetery there. Is this the same family? I was reminded of this recently on a visit to Utah, where my daughter and I went out to visit Beth Atkin, and husband Willard. She is more meaningfully known to us as Edna Beth Workman, from the family that wrote and published "The Workman Family," Sitting at her table, eating lunch, the idea, that here she is, my mom's (Belle Workman) 7th cousin, her kids, my 8th cousins, and her grandkids, my daughter's 9th cousins, and all from two Dutch-English boys in New Amsterdam, brothers, who grew up helping their father, Derick Woertman (Workman) run the Brooklyn ferry--well, the sands of time seemed very small just then. One tid bit you might find interesting. Her father, Meltiar Workman, was the one who raised the money to get the book finally published in 1962. Here he was, 70 some years old, mortgaged his property to finish this family venture, and ended up paying off the bill with Social Security income checks. When I think of that, and what it means to all of us today, to have so many names, so many facts about Knox county history, and personnally, for my family, to have an ancestral line so recorded, it leaves me speechless with thanks.
