In the early days, the Chancery Court served the purpose of deciding disputes regarding property (of any kind). Often one of the heirs (or a third party) would ask this court to divide property or to determine a rightful owner. I found names of children of many of the early Knox County residents by referencing these court records. Unfortunately, they are not (yet) abstracted (to my knowledge).
