    3. I think I may have mentioned this on the list before, but thought this might be a good place to repeat it. All of those that went west did not go by Wagon Train. The John and Elizabeth (Rightmire) Madden family left Knox County in 1851 for California. They went to a port somewhere....(I haven't discovered where) then by ship to the Isthmus of Panama (before the canal was built) By land from the Atlantic to the Pacific and then again by ship to California. This information comes from the obituary of there son John Rightmire Madden. They remained in California and the family including John and Elizabeth is buried at Dixon California. Other westward travelers went by ship around south America. This trip was referred to as " around the Horn" Referring to Cape Horn. There is an amazing amount of information on some of the California Genweb pages. If you are looking for a family that disappeared you might try California. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave McMahon <David.McMahon@Axom.com> To: <OHKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2000 10:08 AM Subject: Re: [OHKNOX] Wagon Train > I would be very interested in more information on the wagon train as > well, my Lepley, > Dial, and McMahon families all had family members go west around that > time, Thanks, Dave > > > ==== OHKNOX Mailing List ==== > Listowner Email is 73777.25@compuserve.com or MaggieOhio@columbus.rr.com > >
