Liberty Passes To Her Final Reward Mrs. Nancy Hollister Dies At The Age of 94 Years - Funeral Arrangements Mrs. Nancy Hollister, widow of Almon Hollister, died at one o'clock Saturday morning at her home, near Mt. Liberty, at the advanced age of ninety-four years. She enjoyed the best of health up until Tuesday of this week when she was seized with a stroke of apoplexy. She appeared to recover from this and was able to converse with the members of the family, but on Thursday complications developed and she sank rapidly until dissolution came at the hour stated above. Mrs. Hollister was born near Bellville, January 24, 1813, but resided in Knox county a greater portion of her life. The deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. L. A. Leedy of Fredericktown, Mrs. J. M. Myers of Denver, Colorado, Mr. Zack Hollister and Mr. Eli Hollister, residing at home, and Mrs. Edwin Cavin of Mt. Vernon. The funeral from the late home Sunday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock, standard time. Interment in the Bird cemetery. Mt. Vernon Daily Banner Mt. Hollister, a former well-known resident of this county: "Caldwell, Kas., October 18. -- C. M. Hollister Deputy Sheriff of this county, and a Deputy U. S. Marshal, was shot and instantly killed about daylight this morning, near Hunnewell, by Bob Cross, a noted desperado, while attempting to arrest him. A large party is in pursuit of Cross, and if caught he will be lynched." Mr. Zach Hollister was in Mt. Vernon, Monday, but could give no further particulars, saying that he had received a telegram conveying the brief announcement of this brother's death. It was his intention to leave for Kansas via the B. & O. road, Monday night. "Cash" Hollister, as he was familiarly known in this county, has been living in Kansas for several years. He was elected Mayor of Caldwell, and for about a year and a half has been acting as Deputy Sherrif. He leaves a wife and one child. The remains will be interred at his Kansas home. The following dispatch appeared in Tuesday's papers: AUGUSTA, KAN., October 21--Bob Cross, the murderer of Deputy Sheriff Hollister, of Hunnewill, was captured by officers, who passed through here yesterday with the prisoner. They are endeavoring to evade a mob of 200 men who are in close pursuit. Democat Banner Mt. Author: sandramgraham Surnames: Hollister Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.knox/2956/mb.ashx Message Board Post: DEATH OF CAPT. GEORGE HOLLISTER SUPPOSED SUICIDE On Tuesday morning our citizens were startled by a report that Capt. George Hollister had shot himself at his father's residence in Liberty township, and was not expected to live. The messenger who brought this news to town came in for Dr. Russell, but before the Doctor reached Mr. Hollister's home, George was dead. The facts immediately attending the case, so far as reports go, are as follows: the deceased had eaten his breakfast, and was making preparations, in company with his wife, (to whom he had been recently married) to start on a journey to Indiana, the residence of the wife's parents. He proposed to his brother that morning that they should exchange pistols, as he wished to have a smaller one to carry in traveling, to which his brother consented. He appeared to be unusually cheerful, and was dancing around the house like a boy, perfectly happy. In a moment a report of a pistol was heard on the porch, and upon the family going out to learn the cause, found the deceased had shot himself, and was then struggling with death. While many persons think it possible that the shot was accidental, yet the general belief is that the deceased intentionally committed suicide, and this belief is predicated on the fact that the pistol ball passed through his head almost on a horizontal lilne, ! above the ears, which is scarcely probable as the result of accident. The deceased was well known in this county, where he was born and spent most of his days. He was generally employed as a teacher in the public schools of his neighborhood. He served his country honorably during the late war, and some three months ago was married to a lady of Warsaw, Indiana, where he lately resided. He had faults (who has not?) but let these be covered over by the mantle of charity, and let his good deeds only be remembered. Democratic Banner Mt.
