Author: cbannes Surnames: KERR Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.knox/2995.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: They are in the 1860 census also, in Jackson Township, Knox County. the reason you couldn't find them is that their last name is misspelled as CARR, and Joseph's birth place is erroneously given as Ohio. If you have ancestry.com, go to the 1860 census and do a search for CARR, OHIO, KNOX County, and JACKSON township. You will find them. I lose track of Joseph and Elizabeth after the 1850 census. He is age 80 and she is 71. They are enumerated with their sons John ( I or J ), age 35 and Isaac, 33. They moved from Pa. with James K. CAUGHEY and others from Colerain,PA. around 1830ish. I have been trying to locate the family of my 4 g grandmother Elizabeth KERR,born in 1765 in Lancaster,PA. for 52 years. We had been told her father was a Joshia KERR from Barttownship, Lancaster, PA., But I have proved this almost impossible since he had moved to Mt Pleasant, Adams, PA. around 1755, long before she was born. So I am tracking another KERR line. John KERR, died in Bart,Lancaster in 1785. His will leaves his estate to his wife Martha and seven childern. One is an Elizabeth, Samuel, Joseph, Martha, William, John & James. One of the inventoriers of the estate was my 5 g grandfather, Francis CAUGHEY. Could be relation, Elizabeth's father-in-law. Could be also that they were I believe members of the same church , Middle Octarara Prebyterain. I found a letter written by James K. CAUGHEY, from Medina, Ohio, to his brother John K. CAUGHEY Jr.who lived in Bart, Lancaster, dated 1837, in which he mentions an Uncle Joseph and Aunt KERR. So again many thanks!!! I know Lovina did not come to OH until about 1832 with her husband TJ Shipley. I know Lovina's parents, Elihu and Chloe Rowley did not come to OH until after 1830 when they were about 60years old. This based on census and a bio of Edwin S. Shipley of WI, son of TJ and Lovina, and a marriage record listing parents. I suppose other children may have left NY to come to OH before Lovina and her parents came. I just don't know the names of all of Elihu and Chloe's children. Just working my way through the many Rowleys trying to make connections. I'd like to think the names beginning with L are their children: Lovina, Levi, Lucy, Loraine etc. but guess that would be too easy! In the early days, the Chancery Court served the purpose of deciding disputes regarding property (of any kind). Often one of the heirs (or a third party) would ask this court to divide property or to determine a rightful owner. I found names of children of many of the early Knox County residents by referencing these court records. Unfortunately, they are not (yet) abstracted (to my knowledge).
