    3. Cathy, I have seen many farms called 'plantations', especially in Maryland and even in the early New England area. The farmers were often called 'planters' and I think that is where the term for their farms stems. 3. Wills are usually only one page. It is the probate that has several pages to them. They have the inventory of the land and personal items listed and the price of each item. To find the children names you can try land records sales after his death. Was there any children under age? If there was you can try guarianship records. Joseph Higgins brought this family to OH in the early 1800's. His wife was Hannah (Austin). Their son Aaron B. Higgins married Elizabeth (Betsy) Westbrook. Aaron is buried in the Houck Cemetery in Hilliard Twp. Aaron's son William M. Higgins lived in Knox Co. for awhile before moving to Licking County. William's wife was Elizabeth Jane Coffield. If anyone has any information about this family, please let me know. I was also trying to locate the Higgins Cemetery while I visited Knox Co. last summer. I didn't have much luck. I talked to a couple people from Knox Co. and they didn't know if there were any traces of it left.

    3. Wilma, Sounds like you have quite a puzzle to solve - I hate it when the second wife has the same name as the first... You might be able to tell if your James Grear & wife came together to Knox county by looking at land records and see if she signed off on any of the deeds. Of coarse, if he was old when he came to Knox he may not have purchased land but just lived with kids...but land records can answer many family questions. I don't know if any of these obits will help but here goes... James Greer d. 20 June 1880 age 90 a pioneer resident of Knox Co, died at his home in Jefferson Twp, he was father of Col B. A. F. Greer. Capt James Greer d. 23 May 1867 b. 20 Aug 1808 2nd s/o Col John Greer, died at his residence in Mt. Holly, born Jefferson Co, Ohio, father removed Knox Co in 1810 near Danville, age 23 married 1846, moved west to Illinois and Missouri about 6 years ago then bought farm in Holmes Co, then about 2 years ago purchased farm that he died on. Buried Greer Cem. Other Greer obits: Mrs. d. 1879 Alexander d. 24 Mar 1875 Arthur d. 1875 Daniel d. 1872 Eliza d. 1880 Martha d. 1873 Martha/Margaret d. 1885 Rodman/Redman d. 1858 Samuel d. 1887 Do you need a look-up for any of the others listed? This is from 'Knox Co, Ohio Wills vol.1 1808-1877' Arthur Greer dated 20 Dec 1875 Box 73 File 1174 Bk.F pg. 494 Martha widow of my brother James Greer, to James O. Greer & Lewis A. Greer children of Winchester Greer dec., niece Mary Jane Fouch, to Chelnissa Totten, Mittie Bretney, to Jornin Greer w/o H.H. Greer, Ella Vaine d/o J.W. Vaine, to Rev. D.B. Hervy, to Sarah McWilliams (teacher), to William McClelland, to Richard & Thomas Greer. 3. Dear Denise, Guess I opened a flood gate of questions on Knox county obituaries. Must have been the right question. I don't expect you to do a lot of free research for me. It would be helpful to know if the surnames (primarily Rightmire) I am researching appear in these books. If they do I would be thrilled to have a copy and would order them right away. Guess all of us have had the experience of ordering a fairly expensive reference book only to find not a word about the family we are researching. So hope they are indexed and I will settle for that information rather than to impose a lot of work on you. Alice
