Jean's family I was told were from Lancashire Scotland. She married William Henegan (Ireland?)and they resided in Scotland, prior to coming to America and settling in Knox Co. The story of their trip over is very interesting and found in the old Knox county history. They finally landed in New Orleans.Their child John Henegan married Mary Barry, who later became Mary Barry Colopy, after John's death. All of which lived in Knox county, Danville/Mt.Vernon area. Mary's second husband was Jonathan Colopy a widower. His deceased wife was Sarah "Berry". (2 families different spellings/names sounded the same.)(Barry/Berry)

    3. Hi: The castles you are referring to are one-half and one mile east of West Liberty, Logan Co., Ohio, and are called Mac-o-chee and Mac-o-cheek castles. They were built by by the Piatt brothers, and are open during the summer months for tours, and Mac-o-cheek castle is also open during the Christmas holidays. If you want more info, write to either castle, at W. Liberty, OH and I'm sure they will be happy to send you tourist info. ----- Original Message ----- From: Maggie Stewart <maggieohio@columbus.rr.com> To: <OHKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 07, 2000 10:58 PM Subject: Fw: Castle's in Knox County > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <Floyd707@aol.com> > To: <OHKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, April 07, 2000 6:34 PM > > > Greetings. > > I work with a lady who says she visited a town called West Liberty that had > small castles that were moved there a long time ago from Europe. 3. Need some help from Mount Vernon, Knox County, Ohio: I started researching my husband's family tree a little over a year ago. Following is what I have found on the Burke side so far: My husband: Gary Hamilton Burke born in Mt Vernon, Knox Co, OH 04 July 1946; his father Jack Hamilton Burke, GFather Tracy Arthur Burke- DOB 08 Aug 1889, Mt Vernon, OH; married Jessie Mae Agnew Burke Gessling- DOB 20 Nov 1888; GGF John Hamilton Burke- DOB 1863 DOD 1926 Mt Vernon, OH; married Mary Eva Williard Burke DOB 1863 DOD 1935 Mt Vernon, OH; GGF John Henry Agnew DOB 23 May 1860 DOD 11 April 1940 Mt Vernon, OH married Susie Mae Roberts Agnew DOB 23 June 1871 DOD 28 Nov 1957, Mt Vernon, OH; GGGF Robert Burke-1836 DOD 18 March 1863 married Sarah H Phillips Burke DOB 1836 DOD 14 Oct 1908 That's as far as I go.... We have a photo of John Hamilton Burke with 6 others who may be brothers and sisters....I keep coming across the names of Pharaoh Burke and a Julia Ann Burke but do not know where they fit into the family tree. Then I located the names of Moses and Mary...don't know where they belong either. I hope to visit Mt Vernon this summer to continue my research. Next question is: Where would I go to locate birth, marriage and death records in Mt Vernon? Will this information be found in the Probate Court? Do you have a library with genealogy records and if so where is the library located? I know I have a lot of questions in this post, but when I find just one more link...it is so exciting. Hoping to hear from someone in Knox County, Mt Vernon, Oh. jb Janis Burke Burke, P.I. email: janis@burkepi.com http://www.burkepi.com

    3. The Piatt castles are 1 and 2 miles east on St Rt. 245. Mac-a Cheek Castle is a limestone stucture completed in 1871. A guided tour of any of the castles rooms acquaints visitors withthe lives of several generations of former occupants. Mac-O-Chee Castle was begun in the 1860's as a modest gothic retreat and was completed in 1881 with a Flemish-inspired limestone facade. This building contains American, European, and Asian furnishings and objects. Both buildings are shown only by 45-minutes, as needed guided tours. One house is open for a Christmas program. ------------------------------------------------------That is what my Ohio tour book has to say about these castles. Hope this helps, Beverly Bishop

    3. Wright's. My Knox County Family are Clark, Farquhar and WRIGHT. Farquhar and Wright families were both Quaker. Perhaps since the vital records do not show this Fitzgerald marriage you might try the Quaker records for the area since Quakers did not believe in Civil Registration for their marriages. Sometime after the Revolution, he moved from Frederick Co., MD, to Wayne Twp., Knox Co., OH. I don't know his exact death date but I know he was still alive August 2, 1837, at age 87. I believe that most of his children moved with him to OH. I have never done research in Ohio and I am not familiar with Knox Co. resources.
