She is my gggmother; she married George Irwin in Knox Co OH in 1834. Look up this family on Familysearch.com; search on Geo & Sarah m. 1834, and you can get the ancestry back to 1610, and you can get siblings of Sarah which might help you bridge the gap to the 1900's. There were lots of Durbins in Knox Co. OH in the early 1800's. Gary Irwin; Moraga, CA

    3. Posted on: Knox Co. Oh Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Knox?read=314 Surname: Davis, Kirkpatrick ------------------------- I am looking for information on Jon L. Davis who was married to my Grandmother, Sabina Jane Kirkpatrick Thompson. I know that the family was in Knox Co. in 1917 because my mother, Dorothy Davis, was born there. I have her birth certificate and it lists Jon L. Davis as her father. I do not know when my grandparents married, but do know that my mother grew up believing that her father was killed by a train before her birth. I have some information that leads me to believ that was not true. I know that my mother, grandmother and the rest of the children moved to another county shortly after my mother's birth. I have not been able to find out anything on Jon. The 1920 census shows my grandmother as head of the household and no mention of Jon. Anyone with any ideas, please let me know. Thanks Patricia Phelps

    3. Ken Reader thanks so much for sending this article to the list, I surely did enjoy it. My father and his sister were given away to and aunt and uncle to be raised by, so that the stepfather didn't kill them....he said he would if the mother didn't get rid of them. My Grandfather on my maternal side also refused to have one of the children in his home that he didn't like her, she also was given away to another family to raise. Children were not treated well many times...bonded out, given away, and then their were the orphan trains...it is a sad thing. It is our history. Bev Henry-Bishop

Oh Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Knox?read=304 Surname: Kerr, Arbuckle ------------------------- Sharon, I live in Granville and need to get to Mt. Vernon again. I started this 10 yrs ago and put it down because my daughter kept me busy with all her activities. I have been to Ohio Historical soc. once with my mother. Right now I have so much yard work, the computer is easy because i can sit down for 5-10 min. between jobs. Pa genweb is good, but it is all volunteer work and doesn't have much. However, I have to admit that it has furthered my research somewhat. I know one thing, Chambers is big name in areaof PA that I stated in last e-mail-CHAMBERSBURG,Franklin Co.,PA. The Chambers brothers settled areas that both my Kerr and arbuckle ancestors lived in. It would be really interesting and fun if you could make that connection-go there and take a look at history of Franklin co. Also, and you probably know all this already- that area lost most of it's young families to Knox and Crawford counties of Ohio when militart districts went up for sale. It was an exodus of pretty significant proportion. i believe that since we are both working on this, we could get these Kerr families straightened out. I mean there just weren't that many people in 1800. Martinsburg is a lonely crossroads today and Frederick town isn't that large. Do go to PA genweb and then tell me what you think. Later, Patti- Oh

James and John may have been brothers so now I have a PA county to check into. John's 1st wife was Sarah Chambers, a native of Ireland according to one of the History of Knox County books. I have spent hours in the Mt. Vernon Library as well as the Ohio Historical Society but haven't come up with John's parents name or origin. After Sarah died in 1811, John married Anna Wells. She died 1837, then John migrated to Andrew Co. Mo. I don't have any James Kerrs but that's not to say they weren't bros. or cousins. Did you know that Kerr in Gaelic means left handed? Just a little trivia for you! Thanks again.
