Dear Jean Pogue, How kind! I so very much appreciate your offer to look up someone in the 1870 Ohio census index! I have two families I am looking for. ALBAUGH, Samuel and Lavina (probably in Knox County) ALBAUGH, E. W. and Nancy (probably in Knox County) E. W. could be listed as Eibhannan or Winchester. Thank you VERY much, Jean! Sue, I thought that was interesting, Charles Englehart married to Emma Workman. Emma is my Great Grandmother's first cousin, if Emma's son, John Owen is your Grandfather, we are first cousins three times removed. I have nothing more on the Englehart family than is in the book. Myron
Teresa, I can probably provide you with some assistance on HARDING/HARDEN/HARDIN families in Knox Co. from 1840 to 1850. I am looking for information on my GGGrandfather, Charles C. Engelhardt, born 21 Sep 1861 and died 5 Apr 1919. By the death certicate, he obviously lived in the Howard area. I would like a copy of his obituary and the article from the newspaper(s) on his death. He was killed by a RR train and he was also a RR foreman. Actually any information on his family would also be appreciated. He was married to Emma Workman and was the son of Jacob and Margarite/Margaret Zilles Engelhardt. Charles and Emma had the following children: John Owen (my grandfather); Asa W.; William Curtis (graduated from Howard HS); and Ethel. Any assistance in this area would be appreciated. Hello, listers! I'm stumped. My ggg grandparents, Lavina SMITH (1818 - 1897) married Samuel ALBAUGH (1808 - 1889) in 1836 in Knox or Licking County. I am looking for Lavina's parents and family. Here are obituaries for Lavina and Samuel. They indicate that Lavina Smith was born in Knox County and lived there all her life, but at the time of their marriage, Samuel Albaugh was living in Licking County. Doesn't make much sense! Can anybody help place Lavina Smith in a family? Thanks! She would have been 80 years of age had she lived until the 2nd of next February. Deceased was born in Knox County, where she lived all her life. She was an exemplary Christian woman, for many years a member of the Christian Church, and she died in the faith. The funeral will be held Thursday morning, and at ten o'clock the remains will be taken from the house to St. John's Church, where the services, conducted by Rev. J.H. Hamilton, will be held. Posted on: Knox Co. Oh Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Knox?read=382 Surname: Watkins, Newland, Hen ------------------------- I am searching for information on my great x 3 grandmother, Rebecca Newland, born somewhere in Virginia in 1819, who married George Watkins, of Knox County, on 7 April 1836 in Knox County. George and Rebecca resided in Knox County for the rest of their lives. George (1796-1858) was the son of James Watkins and Catherine Hen of Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Rebecca died in 1902. I know something of the Watkins family history, but Rebecca Newland remains a mystery. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would be delighted to exchange information with anyone interested.
This is a forwarded message. Please reply to "ALL" or the person/email listed below. ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat Phelps <pphelps@mail.ncats.net> Sent: Monday, July 17, 2000 12:57 PM Diana, It sounds like you are having the same trouble with your Davis that I am having with mine. My grandfather's name was Jon L. Davis and he was born around 1878/79. I don't know where or who his parents were. He married my grandmother, Sabina Jane Kirkpatrick Thompson, sometime around 1915-17 and they had my mother, Dorothy, who was born 12/27/1917 in Knox County, Ohio. I found out that on the 1920 census for Ohio, my grandmother was listed as head of the houshold and there was an 8 month old boy listed as her grandson. The mother of the baby was my aunt(age 15) and I later found out that my grandfather was the father. The child would have been born around Nov of 1919. The story goes that my grandmother left Jon and never divorced him but she told my mother that he had been killed by a train before she was born. I have looked for Jon for the last 6 years and can find no trace of him. Gram's obit said that she and her fmaily of 7 kids moved to Richland Co. in 1917 but I am ! more inclined to think it was 1918/1920. On mom's BC it says that Jon was born in Ireland, but since I can't find him, I can't prove that.
