    2. It has been a long time since I have posted anything but several names here are in my family so I will post what I know of them. My GGGrandfather William H. BLAIR was married to Levinia SHAW until her death on March 21,1850. They has eight children. On November 5,1850 William married Olive (nee MELTON), the widow of Samuel SIMPSON. Olive was born November 11, 1819, in Jefferson, OH. The marriage resulted in five children, the youngest was my Great-grandfather who was named Calvin Simpson BLAIR. William died Oct 07, 1898; Olive died Aug 25, 1890. They are buried together in the Wesley Chapel, United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Calvin married Sevena DEAKINS, daughter of William DEAKINS and Hestor BAKER. They had six children, five girls and one boy. Daughter Olive died at age 12 of Diphtheria in Cleveland. The surviving daughters were Hattie, Elsie, Mary Alice, and Ruth, who was my maternal grandmother; the only son was Frank. I do not know the family of Olive MELTON SIMPSON BLAIR before she married William. She must have been a fine woman. Bob McCann Manchester, NH Rmlm263@Aol.com

    2. Lynn: No, I have to go through the webtv system. The first time I hooked this box into the phone and electric line and turned it on webtv came on the screen immediately. After completing the on-screen form I was hooked up - only a couple of minutes. You have to use their service which is basic $9 + per month. Then you can choose ISP with them or select any other one. I pay $12 + for ISP which is really the tiger.tech free service which I can get free! I pay a total of $21.95 per month to them which I don't mind. I've had excellent service - only a few periods of about 1 hr. that it was very slow. Also I'm paying $19.95 per month for internet for the computer so total for both about $42. That isn't bad but when I can get a free service I just thought I'd try it with webtv (which is in reality my ISP anyhow). With a 27" screen I don't have to move on any page to read anything so I do most of my searches on it. I have a package deal on my phone which has voice mail, call waiting, etc. When I'm using webtv my phone rings and puts my screen on hold while I talk on the phone. I usually just finish disconnecting webtv unless it's a short conversation. I'm sitting here looking at this l-o-n-g letter and realizing that when you get me started you can't turn me off. I had a letter today from a lady on the list named Funk and she said she really got the giggles over my letter to you. I'm just thankful that I didn't say too much personal ?? I told her I found it a little humorous but if someone from webtv finds out I'll be left with just the computer (no webtv). I'm not on top of their list anyway - the other day the Hunter-L list had to unsubscribe me for mail overload - webtv didn't deliver it. The reason? W-e-l-l I had around 500 saved messages in my storage on one name and so many current ones for that day. The box was nearly to explode. So I went to one of my other user names and resubscribed within a few minutes of my notification. I was a good girl though and deleted about 200 saved messages and still working on it. Now Lynn, mark page 100 of this book with your initials so you remember that you read it. I must get to slumberland - kids are coming tomrrow and need to have resistance. Buono Notte (Good Night), Loretta

    3. Loretta, Does webtv go through your phone line to connect to the Net? If so, it would be cheaper just to use Juno through your computer for $10 a month. There is also thing I have called CallWave that allows people calling while you're on line to get a answering machine rather than a busy signal. It only costs 75 cents per month. Let me know if you want to know more. Cousin Lynn On Sat, 19 Aug 2000 13:37:22 -0400 (EDT) hlhun@webtv.net writes: > Hi Lynn: > That's funny - I bit on that one didn't I? 2. Hi Lynn: That's funny - I bit on that one didn't I? I wanted to take an educated guess - I think his father's name could have been Jesse Grant - not sure but I did have some information somewhere in my mound on his parents. I'm having a picnic trying to dispose of old mail on webtv and keeping what is valuable to put in the computer. I'm going to change ISP on webtv and go to tiger.tech which is free. The ironic thing is that tiger.tech is now my server but I'm paying webtv $12.95 (thereabout) each month for the same service!! Webtv tells me I'll still have all of the services with them if I go to tiger.tech on my own - we'll soon see. I'll still be paying webtv around $9 for their service but that's quite a difference from $21.95 I pay now. Oh well guess I'd better get busy!! Cousin, Loretta

    3. . I have made a devestating discovery regarding borrowing Gen. books through the library. Several years ago I used to request Gen material regularly. Then I quit for a while & now I have picked up my Gen. work again & I find out from the library that because so much Gen. material has turned up missing that they can no longer request the loan of a book & expect to get it. They are being refused. This is in Central Illinois, are others experiencing this also.? What a terrible shame. Sallie K.

    3. Thanks to the help on this list and in Mt.Vernon, my whirlwind trip to OH, was very fruitful. Of course, when one question gets an answer, it spawns more questions. (does it ever stop?) <G> While searching for my James S. Taylor b.1862, I did find his father, William G. b.1830 and mother Elvira b.1835 and brothers William E. b.1860, George M. b.1868, and sisters Kate M. b.1858, Carrie b.1876 and uncle Charles A. b.1850 and grandparents Samuel b.1800 & Isabella b.1814. William G. lived at 1100 W. Vine at least from the time his wife, Elvira, died in 1907, until he died in 1924. My latest question is who was the George Oram who listed his permanent address at the same house? I've found an advertising flyer for George dated 1917 that promotes him as a "Punch and Judy" ventriloquist, lecturer, and magician. It appears he was "on the road" alot and possibly with a group called the "King's Comedy Players", managed by Nellie King. Anyone hear any bells ringing with this one? Thanks, Tom Pfeifer in AZ tj54@goodnet.com
