Rosanne, Have you been in contact with Jim Logsdon?? I believe he lives in Ohio and is part of our maze. I looked in book "Western MD. Catholics" but figured from your knowledge of the Logsdons, McKenzie's etc, you probably already have or have checked that book. I could only find date of marriage for John McKenzie and Margaret Logsdon. But I really didn't look into the Baptisms or Deaths. There are two other SAPP---LANCASTER researchers here in Cumb. Those two surnames are also intermarried into my PARKERS -MAGERS and your LOGSDONS--McKENZIES. I can check with them. Jim Logsdons email is jmlogsdon@compuserve.com If you have already been in contact with him, let me know, I will email Dick Koch (SAPP) and Tom Lancaster (Lancaster, McKenzie, Porter, Mager, Sapp & others) Will see if they can help us out here. Correction to todays earlier message: Joseph C McKenzie enlisted 3 June 1861, was discharged 3 May 1862. Rosanne
Hi Pat, About Joseph McKenzie..... "My" Joseph McKenzie was the son of John McKenzie & Margaret Peggy Logsdon. They married in Dec, 1822 in Cath. Ch in Allegany Co., MD. They had 3 children....Mary, b 1823, Joseph b 1826, both baptised in a Catholic Ch in Allegany Co, MD. Sometime before 1829 the family moved to Knox Co OH where John was b. & baptised at St Luke's Ch. Danville, OH. in 1829. The father reportedly died in 1829, his widow remarried in 1832. Mary m. Wm H Remington. John m. Sarah Presley, Caroline Southwick and Emma Moreland. By 1869 John and Emma were in IL. Joseph m. Elizabeth N Parker 1 Sept 1862 by a Catholic priest in Knox Co, OH. Family legend claims he farmed near Mt Vernon and had a son named Delano. Now it gets murky.....in Hill's book, History of Knox Co 1881, it mentions Joseph C. McKenzie was in Co. A, 4th Ohio Vol. Inf. during the Civil War. Two days ago NARA sent me info from his Civil War Pension Application.....he was in Co. A, 4th Ohio Vol. Inf. Enlisted in Mt Vernon in 1862, 29 yrs old and born in Mt Vernon, occupation prior to enlistment was "painter". He was injured in the war and received an honorable discharge in May 1862 and a pension. His widow applied for a widow's pension after he died 27 Dec 1893. They had married 26 May 1885 in Knox Co, by a J.P. The record shows Joseph C McKinzie m. Mrs Martha Baker. On her application she lists children Harvey McKenzie, b. 10 Sept 1887 and Marietta McKenzie b. 12 April 1889....residence Mt Vernon, OH. She was b. c. 1850. From the Knox Co Record of Deaths....Joseph McKenzie died 27 Dec 1893, age not given, birthplace not known, occupation painter, white male, place of residence and place of death Knox Co, Pleasant Tp. In Joseph's application for a pension he cites a sister Mrs George Simpkins and two brothers, one dead and the other moved and he knew not where. Someone did a 1870 census look up for me. It showed 4 Joseph McKenzies. The ones from Holmes Co and Knox Co were both born in MD, the ones from Henry Co and Wood Co were both born in OH. The ages range from 33 to 41. "My" Joseph would have been 44 then. That is what I have about Joseph McKenzie, and probably more than you care to know. Once I got started it seemed to mushroom. It seems that the Joseph C is different than "my" Joseph, but I leave my mind open to all thoughts and opinions. Rosanne P.S. If you can find out the parents of John McKenzie & Margaret Peggy Logsdon you would blow a big hole in my brick wall. :)
Hi Rosanne, Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I don't know when Elizabeth Parker McKenzie died. Do you have any data of the two Joseph McKenzies?? Did they both have roots in Maryland??? This Sarah Elizabeth Nixon Parker, mother of Elizabeth who married Joseph McKenzie, was the 3rd wife of BENJAMIN PARKER. Benjamin and his 2nd wife---RACHEL WARD are my ggg-grandparents. I can find little on Benjamin. But think he may have died just prior to Sarah Elizabeths return or relocation to Knox Co. ca 1850's. My Parkers intermarried & moved to Knox Co. with Durbins, Logsdons, Sapp, Magers/Majors, Porter, Mathews, & others from Allegany Co. MD. Perhaps my Parkers were from Ohio to begin with---I can't seem to find their location before Allegany Co. MD. in late 1700's. My gg-grandparents were --GEORGE BYARD PARKER & HENRIETTA MAGERS d/o William Magers and Drucilla Sapp. George and Henrietta were married --7 August 1844 at St. Lukes Catholic Church in Danville, OH by Fr. Lamy. They then returned to Western MD. ca 1850 with my gr-grandfather John Thomas Parker at age 17 months. If you can tell me anything about the Joseph McKenzie's, perhaps I can find some data here in MD. for him if he had Maryland roots. Again Thanks for your reply, and if I can be of any help, let me know Am anxious to know ANYTHING of the Knox Co. Parker Families. Hi, I am new to list and hoping someone may have information of SARAH ELIZABETH NIXON PARKER who relocated to Knox Co. ca 1850's. She lived perhaps in Mt. Vernon area. I found (Sarah) Elizabeth on 1860 Census listed as 44 years old (b. ca 1816)---Occupation: Washer Woman. Sarah Elizabeth d. 1897 may be buried at Quarry Chapel Cemetery. children; Thomas Parker --b. ca 1837--in MD ?? Elizabeth Ann Parker--b. ca 1843- (may have m: Joseph McKenzie) Margaret B. Parker --b, ca 1844--(may have m: Thomas Bennett) Henry Clay Parker b. ca 1847 (m: Sarah Frances Hopwood??) Florence Parker b. ca 1849-- m: Martin VanBuren Harden/Hardin)--perhaps d. 1930 buried at Oak Grove Cemetery William Parker b. ca 1852 I believe there was an older son---BENJAMIN F. PARKER (Jr.) -b, ca 1835 in MD. living in Boarding House at time of 1860 Census. Does anyone know more of Sarah Elizabeth Parker and her children? I would particularily like to find more of her spouse---I believe was Benjamin F. Parker Sr. or any related PARKER Family in the Knox Co. area. Any help or direction most appreciated. Be glad to share anything I have on the Parkers from back in early Maryland. Thanks for any help. Pat Hook
Do you have an index for the entire state or just certain Counties? At the National Archives in Boston, they have a CD index for Ohio but it is limited in content. My family would be in Knox, Huron, Ashtabula, and Cuyahoga County. I have tried several methods to work without a Soundex or an index but I would have better luck trying to find that proverbial needle in those haystacks which sit so neatly on a Knox County farm. Sorry list that I have to address e-mail for "Cousin Lynn" to the entire list. I could not determine which was her e-mail addrress. Lynn, Where can someone buy "CallWave?" I'm using free Juno - it works pretty good in the San Diego area. But it would be nice to have that feature. I understand that AOL offers that answering machine feature to their subscribers. I think the "answering machine" part is arranged with the local phone company? ! . . . . . . Any info you have to give would be appreciated.
