Oh Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/Knox/444 Surname: Miller, Davis, Bricker, Fredrick, Clutter, Horner ------------------------- We're looking for any information about George Frampton, who settled in Knox County (Morgan Twp) about 1811. All we know is that he came to Ohio from PA (Washington or Greene County) with his wife Sarah Davis (dau of Azariah Davis)and two young sons, William Davis & John. They had several more children. We don't know when George was born, or when he died. We think his wife Sarah died about 1868 in Licking County, possibly at the home of her daughter Mary (Polly) Jewell. Thanks for any help. 3. Hi, Mary, I'm sorry, the URL came out as a two line URL with the second line not underlined. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=carolin e&id=I12577 You have to make sure to put the whole thing all the way to 77 at the end. All I have on Sarah Smith is that she was born on 09 May 1780, died 27 Apr 1837 in Jefferson Twp, Knox Co, OH. I believe she may have been born in PA. I do not have her parents. Frederick Rice was born 22 May 1777 in PA, probably Bedford Co, and died 21 Jul 1852, Jefferson Twp, Knox Co, OH. They are both buried in Hardinger Cemetery, located on Shultz family property in Knox County, OH. There aren't any other Smiths listed in that Cemetery. If this matches yours, I'll be happy to send you a file on the descendants. Caroline -----Original Message----- From: M.L. 3. I have recently been researching Knox County residents who went to California. Try some of the rootsweb pages in California. Some of them are really informative. Lots of information Especially Sacramento, San Francisco and Solano Counties. All of these adventures people did not go to California across the plains in a covered wagon. Many went by ship. Some going clear around South America and the term usually used is around the Horn. Others by ship to the Isthmus of Panama (where the Panama Canal is now) and then overland from the Atlantic to the Pacific. In any event there is an amazing ammount of information on line about the California pioneers. Alice

I was referring to anyone making a query. Oft times, someone will post a query "Looking for information on siblings of John Carter." The query should have listed a geographic location and approximate year of an event; birth, marriage, death; whatever. In the above example the reader can guess that the John Carter being researched is from OHKNOX if that is where the query is posted. But are you looking for the John Carter of 1803; 1828; 1853; 1877 or some other time period? Queries should be short, but they must give enough information to get the reader to say - "Yes, I know this John Carter." and reply to your query. But you knew all of this, didn't you? ----------------- Coleen and Dick Hardin wrote: Ken, I saw the following message on the Knox County, Ohio, GenWeb (your message had been forwarded on to GenWeb by Maggie Stewart). In the last paragraph, under "Point 2," you said, "When querying the site for ancestors." I was just wondering which site you're referring to, since I am interested (snip)

    3. Aman, to what both, Carol and Alice say. The people at FHC are always willing to help you. Join a local Gen. Soc. they too, are always helpful, attend some of their classes. I know I spent enough time in all the above, and a lot of letter writting. Thank God for internet, I would never have come in contact with the people I've found searcing for my ancestors. Genealogy is the fun of sharing, but, sometimes you just have to do a little hunting for yourself. Mary

    3. And don't forget the LDS FHC, if there is one near you. Check the Library Catalog (online at http://www.familysearch.com or on CD at any FHC ) to see if there are probate records, marriage records, etc. for the areas you are searching in. Might be cheaper to rent the microfilm from the LDS ($3.50 or so for about 6 weeks) & make a copy from that (25 cents a copy at my local FHC) than to order the document from the State or County. The FHC would have the census records on microfilm too, but it's probably cheaper to do an ILL, as Carol suggested. The Internet is great for doing genealogy--I've made more progress in the last 5 years online than in the previous 20+, but sometimes you just have to search the actual records. 3. Sounds like you need to do your basic research yourself. You need to order the microfilms of each year (that is available) census (but order the index first) Your local library can order these through inter-library loan or directly from the National Archives. There i s probably a small fee for postage. Copy both the entry for your family and the header of the page showing the State, Township/Town, page number & date. It is always advisable to note who the neighbors were...that is usually the families the children married into. After 1850 the census asked he name of each person who lived in the household. Sometime after 1850 it will also give the birthplace of each person THEN you need to order the Iowa State census for the time he was in Iowa...some of the Iowa state census asked WHERE YOUR PARENTS WERE MARRIED among much other informative information!!!!!! Send to the appropriate office in Iowa for a copy of his death certificate and order the newspaper of the area he lived in for the time frame of a week or so after his death to find his obituary and/or death notice. Send for a copy of the APPLICATION for the marriage license for his marriage in Iowa. Send for a copy of his will, and or estate from the county in which he died. This will give you more clues as to heirs and their locations. If you do these things....You should find the answers to your questions and a lot more questions!
