    3. Charneee, you didn't have to be a veteran to purchase what was called military land (Ohio military land district) in Ohio. In the Knox Co. area the land office was Zanesville Oh. You may have to write to; Archives-Library Divison Ohio Historical Society 1982 Velma Ave. Columbus, Oh 43211-2497 tell them what you are looking for. You will be pleasantly surpised what they send, for a small fee, and well worth it. I've received info on three of our ancestors. Good luck Mary Yakima, Wa. marylkinney@webtv.net

    1. Names of Roads in Knox County
    2. Pam
    3. I thought some of you might find this interesting... While on vacation in Knox County this past summer, I spoke with a county commissioner. He told me that most of the roads were given names abt 1986 when the 911 telephone system went into effect there. The roads were given the names of the family who had lived on that road for the longest amount of time, not necessarily the earliest family living there. Road maps are available for $2.50 (unless the price has gone up since summer) from the map dept in the county offices. It's very interesting to see all those Knox County family names on the map.

    2. FOOT_SHOP
    3. Hi everyone. I am looking for information on the following: Martha Butler married Nathaniel Hornbeck on 6/17/1830 in Knox Co. Nathaniel was from Virginia, and was the son of William Hornbeck and Mary Elizabeth Yoakam. Martha was from, I believe, Maryland. Their children were all born in Knox. They were: Lydia b: abt 1833, William China b: abt 1836, Benjamin b: abt 1837 Eliza R. "Rodelphia" b: 5/22/1841 Nathaniel died around 1849 in Knox Co. I have Eliza R.'s death certificate but it lists her parents as "Lew" Hornbeck and Martha Butler. I believe this is inaccurate, and I am trying to tie her to Nathaniel. Nathaniel left no will, according to the Knox Co. Courthouse. After Nathaniel's death, the children were all sent away to live with other families, with "Rodelphia" being sent to live with the family of Jacob Morgan in Delaware Co. Martha promptly married Joel Olney and also moved to Delaware Co. If anyone has any information on this family, I would love to hear from you. Brenda

    1. John Riley
    2. Riley, Daniel J.
    3. I am researching John Riley. John Riley who died in 1828 in Brown County Ohio according to family history. He was married to a woman named Joanna/Anna Shield. Joanna remarried in 1829/1830 to a Isaac J. Dawson who migrated to Indiana. A Dawson researcher beleives that the Riley and Shield families may have come from Maryland through Kentucky. John was supposedly born in Ohio and Joanna is listed in several documents as having been born in Kentucky. John and Joanna had three children; William, James, and America. America married Simon P. Warner in 1845 and died in Oregon (?). James married Sarah Ellen Brady in 1846 and removed to somewhere in Ohio. James allegedy had the nickname of Wrestlin Jim. John may have been the 4th eldest of 10 children born to Nicholas and Hannah Shrimplin Riley, on 7/3/1807. Nicholas and Hannah migrated to Knox County, Ohio abt 1806 from Wellsburg, Virginia. Does anyone have any information this John. I would also be interested to know if this John were buried in the Riley cemetary outside Mt. Vernon. I will be glad to share any information. Thanks Dan Riley rileydanielj@yahoo.com

    3. Posted on: Knox Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Knox/479 Surname: Kaylor, Wander, Stillinger, Fry, Brennstuhl, Oswald, Branneman ------------------------- Hi Ken, I saw your posting which referenced a Susan Stillinger on the Knox Co. mailing list, and tried unsuccessfully to email you at your AOL address. Noting the surnames you posted, I thought perhaps you might be able to help me "link up" a couple of Stillingers who married into family lines of mine. My direct line is the Kaylor family, though the others are all "offshoots." I am wondering if any of these Stillingers may be closely connected to each other? I do have some descendant info if it would be of interest to you. 1. Elizabeth Stillinger, born c. 1824; married Jacob Branneman (c1817-1865). Their sons Joseph (died 1868) and Richard (1845-1887) were apparently both husbands of Sarah Anna Kaylor (1848-1938), daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Wander Kaylor. Sarah Anna and Joseph married in Knox Co. in 1867; she married Richard several years later. 2. Drusilla Stillinger, born c1835 OH; married Benjamin Wander (1832 Yates Co. NY - 1917 Knox Co.OH). They married 1856 Knox Co. He was a maternal uncle of Sarah Anna Kaylor above. 3. Catherine Stillinger (1832-1869 Knox Co. OH); she was the first wife of Michael Wander (brother of Benjamin above; b.1829 Alsace, probably Wingen - 1903 Knox Co. OH). 4. Mary (Elizabeth Quintilla?) Stillinger, 1868-1948. Married William Philip Fry 1888 Coshocton Co. 5. Benjamin Franklin Stillinger (1869-1949); married Clara Ann Fry (1870-1949), sister of William Philip Fry. Were Mary and Benjamin possibly siblings? Any help you might be able to provide would be terrific! Thanks!
