Is anyone searching or have knowledge of any of the Davis families in Knox Co around 1810. Also wondering if anyone has access to the History of Knox Co, that might be able to check for any Bio's for the Davis or related families. Some of this Davis family came to Allen Co around 1834, and some moved on to Union Co. Can anyone tell me if there are any Davis's listed in the Cemetery Index's for Knox Co. If anyone is interested in helping I have some names and dates that might help. Any help appreciated. Thanks Katherine

Hi, I have learned from my gg-grandfather's Civil War Pension File that his third wife was born in Mt Vernon, Knox Co, Ohio. If there is anyone who is interested in Maria E. Pierson who was born on 14 Jan 1843 in Mt Vernon, please contact me for more information. Marie married first to Amos Rhoads or Rhoades in 1860 and they had five children - lived first in Logan Co, Ohio before moving to Jackson Co, Kansas about 1863. >From the Ancestral File and from Ancestry.com Maria's parents are said to be Abraham Pierson & Hannah Pierce - I have no documentation at this time but I hope to after I contact the submitters. Posted on: Knox Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Knox/556 Surname: ------------------------- Hi! I have noticed that you are doing research on the Terrys. I was wondering if you happen to have a Henry Thomas Terry (born ca 1886), son of William John Terry and Jennifer Hill, in your family tree? Henry Thomas was in Ontario at the time of his marriage to Gertrude Evelyn Virgin in 1906. We are not too sure if he was born in Ontario, Canada. It is said that the TERRYs came from the United States, from around West Virginia. Please, if you have any information, could you please contact me. Thank you and I hope to hear from you very soon.
I think I may have mentioned this on the list before, but thought this might be a good place to repeat it. All of those that went west did not go by Wagon Train. The John and Elizabeth (Rightmire) Madden family left Knox County in 1851 for California. They went to a port somewhere....(I haven't discovered where) then by ship to the Isthmus of Panama (before the canal was built) By land from the Atlantic to the Pacific and then again by ship to California. This information comes from the obituary of there son John Rightmire Madden. They remained in California and the family including John and Elizabeth is buried at Dixon California. Other westward travelers went by ship around south America. This trip was referred to as " around the Horn" Referring to Cape Horn. There is an amazing amount of information on some of the California Genweb pages. If you are looking for a family that disappeared you might try California. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave McMahon <David.McMahon@Axom.com> To: <OHKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2000 10:08 AM Subject: Re: [OHKNOX] Wagon Train > I would be very interested in more information on the wagon train as > well, my Lepley, > Dial, and McMahon families all had family members go west around that > time, Thanks, Dave > > > ==== OHKNOX Mailing List ==== > Listowner Email is 73777.25@compuserve.com or MaggieOhio@columbus.rr.com > >

I would be most interested in more info on the wagon train....time frame, other families who joined...where they went etc. I have several families who disappeared from the Coshocton/Knox Co. area that I suspected may have joined such an enterprise.. My g-g-g-grandfather is from Carroll County, Ohio, he was born in Scotland in 1792, Came to this country, married Nancy Walters in 1828 in Columbiana County, Ohio, and then died in 1854 in Carroll County, Ohio. His name is Gilbert McBain. Would enjoy hearing from with info about McBain's.
While I have not evidence of the wagon train, I have suspected a large movement of these same folks from Knox as well as Richland and Ashland Counties. My Miller (for my main family here) are from Knox. Michael and Catherine (Slice) Miller slowly established a farm in Dekalb County, Indiana. This was over a course of perhaps 10 years. Michael went back and forth returning to the family in Knox. I have found a wealth of names in the following census of 1850. A search of some of the names here on the LDS site will show addresses in the above counties for them. http://www.rootsweb.com/~indekalb/census/1850/ I look in Concord Township, but have found a few familiar names in others here as well. My Dragoo (Draggoo) are in other counties in Indiana, too. I am very interested in Slice, which is probably a corruption of Vanderslice or Vandersluyse, and is listed on that census as origin in Maryland. Michael Miller is out of PA, perhaps Bedford or Huntington Counties.
